Rope access techs are never on just one rope. Here's why.

One line, the working line, holds your weight. The second, the safety line, has its own anchor and its own device, and it's there if the first one ever fails. Climbing, changing ropes, even rescuing a teammate: both lines stay attached the whole time.

Five days, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Levels 1, 2 and 3 train in the same week, and Level 1 needs no prior rope access experience. Pass your assessment, and you leave with a certification recognized worldwide.

Day 1. The September cohort is on rope. 🧗‍♂️

IRATA Rope Access Level 1 is underway in Calgary. Five days of hands-on-rope training and one standard: do it right or do it again.

This morning is harness fit, gear inspection and knots. Thursday is rescue, and no candidate passes without performing one. Friday, an independent IRATA assessor decides whether they walk out certified.

What the five days cover:

Five days in Calgary. A certification that travels.

IRATA is the rope access standard for wind turbines, high-rises, bridges, tanks and telecom towers. You train here, and the ticket is recognized internationally.

Levels 1, 2 and 3 all run in the same week. Level 1 takes no previous experience, just reasonable fitness and a head for heights.

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at our Calgary facility. Eight seats per course.

IRATA rope access training in Calgary is $1,600 + GST this fall. That is $250 off the regular $1,850.

Two sessions left this month: September 21 to 25, and September 28 to October 2.

Five days at the APEX Rope Industries training facility in Calgary. Levels 1, 2 and 3 run in the same week, so whether you are starting from zero or logging hours toward your next level, there is a place in the room. Level 1 has no prerequisites.

The assessment at the end is carried out by an independent IRATA International Assessor, not by us. That separation is exactly why the ticket is trusted on sites worldwide.

Rope access opens work in wind, oil and gas, telecom, structural inspection and rescue. Few tickets travel across borders the way this one does.

A fall arrest system does one job. It stops the fall.

It does not end the emergency. It starts a clock.

Alberta's own Part 9 guidance puts the onset of suspension trauma at 3.5 to 10 minutes for most people. A worker hanging motionless in a harness is not stable and waiting. Blood is pooling in their legs, and the harness that saved their life is now part of the problem.

Here is the part most sites have not caught up to. Alberta OHS states plainly that for a worker suspended in the air after a fall, calling 911 and waiting for rescue services to arrive is an insufficient emergency response.

That is not an opinion about best practice. It is written into the guidance behind the Code. Section 140(2)(f) requires your written fall protection plan to contain the rescue procedures you will actually use. Section 141 requires the people expected to perform that rescue to be trained to perform it.

Which means a rescue plan is not a document. It is a person, on site, who can get to a suspended worker and bring them down.

That person is what our Rope Rescue Technician course produces. Five days in Calgary: complex anchor design, compound mechanical advantage, changeovers and load transfers, edge transitions, litter rigging, high-angle operations. Training that meets and exceeds NFPA 1006 and 2500 Technical Rope Operations requirements.

The next session runs Nov 16 to 20 in Calgary. Operator level is the prerequisite. If you don't have it yet, you still have time to get it before November.
