Exciting things happening in New Glasgow! We're always looking for current and relevant examples of how communities are evolving in other parts of the province to see what we can learn.
The Town of New Glasgow, in partnership with the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library, is launching a fundraising campaign to support the revitalization of the New Glasgow Public Library and Community Spaces.
The project will transform the existing library facility into a vibrant Destination Centre, bringing together community partners and providing welcoming, accessible spaces for residents of all ages. Planned upgrades include modern meeting rooms, creative and maker spaces, areas for youth and seniors, and programming and collaboration spaces for community groups and nonprofit organizations.
The fundraising campaign has a goal of $4.7 million, which will help create modern, flexible spaces while supporting major building upgrades that improve accessibility and reduce energy use.
“Our public library has always been a place where people come together to learn, connect, and grow,” said Mayor Nancy Dicks. “This revitalization project will ensure the library continues to serve our community for generations to come.”
The campaign is being led by Co-Chairs Wade Sullivan and Emily Sullivan.
“The library has always been a special place in our community, and this project will help create a space where people of all ages can gather, learn, and connect,” said Emily Sullivan.
“We’re proud to help lead this campaign and invite others to join us in supporting a space that will benefit our community for many years to come,” said Wade Sullivan.
A digital booklet outlining the project and ways to support the campaign is available on the Town of New Glasgow website at https://newglasgow.ca/library-revitalization-project-2.html

As we wrap up 2025 and look ahead to 2026 we hope and wish for BELONGING in our community.
An article titled "The Loneliness Epidemic and the Importance of ‘Third Spaces’" was published in the Halifax Examiner back in November. Although focused on more urban areas the issue of loneliness is on the rise everywhere.
From the article, Kim Samuel, founder of the Belonging Forum notes:
"Belonging isn’t accidental; careful thought is needed for effective space design that fosters belonging.
Belonging in physical spaces is not a choice between four walls versus an open concept. It’s about everything that happens within that space.
The environment, the friendships, imagination, and hope that can either flourish or perish.”
More nuggets from the article in the comments. Some things to consider ahead of our upcoming recreation needs assessment.
Happy New Year to all of our supporters, neighbours, colleagues, volunteers and community members.

Hey friends!
We are long overdue for a post and update.
The last time you heard from us, we were asking for your support in encouraging Town and County Councils to fund a recreation facility needs assessment. 💰
For those of you who might not be aware, we were SUCCESSFUL! ✅
We are well aware the holidays are in full swing and this comes with a lot of lists, letters and time spent with friends and family.
We are hoping this post will put us back on your radar 📡 because we want you to start thinking about WHAT RECREATION IN ANTIGONISH MEANS TO YOU.
Much like this plain wreath needs some colour and sparkle, community engagement in this process will need input from all voices to really bring it to life.
Stay tuned!
