Couple issues to raise regarding the tryout process … not listing organizations specifically because all the Karen’s and Chad’s will come out throwing rocks, but we can all figure it out.
For those organizations that don’t allow spectators inside the arena to watch tryouts - SHADY! What is it that you’re hiding that Jimmy or Samantha’s parents can’t sit up in the stands and watch their child perform? Is it because teams are already selected prior to tryouts with back door deals and the organization/coaches do not want proof or legitimacy to illustrate their own corruption?
It’s embarrassing for grown men and women to have to lie and cheat against 7-13 year olds just so they can have their friends’ kids “make” a competitive team. If you’re an organization or a coach or an executive member that even brings this topic up for discussion then you should be removed from your position because you are SHADY as hell.
Next, how about conflicts of interest? We’ve got executive members and technical directors making decisions on kids that they have outside personal relationships with. Some of these people have taught kids in school and have friendships with families that are now in a room with said kids shaking hands for making teams while other players that have performed better and have no familial friendships with said member are being released without explanation.
If there is even a hint of conflict, please be mature adults and remove yourselves from the situation. It’s about the kids.
At the end of the day, for those organizations that have a moral compass and ALLOW their members to watch tryouts, we all see the same thing just through a different lens. We see the mistakes. We see the effort. We also see the corruption and lies unfolding in front of us. So, when you’re trying to be slick and pull the wool over eyes, try a little harder.
Minor hockey is such a mess. I feel sorry for some of these kids.
