Less visible doesn't mean less hazardous. ⚠️

Laser welding produces less total fume mass than arc welding, but the fumes it does generate are made of smaller, ultrafine particles that stay airborne longer and can pe*****te deeper into the respiratory system.

Bottom line: laser welding fumes aren't safer or riskier than arc welding fumes—just different. Proper ventilation and fume extraction are still a must.

"Measure twice, cut once" is a principle every skilled tradesperson knows well, and it applies to workforce data too. In this article, Trent Konrad, Vice President of Business Development at CWB Group, addresses a statistic that has circulated widely but does not reflect current data--that the average age of a welder is 55.

Statistics Canada reports that the average age of Canadian welders was 39.2 in 2025, younger than commonly assumed. But the workforce challenge on the horizon is still real.
