Join the staff of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan in celebrating this day!
Vyshyvanka Day is an international holiday celebrating the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt as a symbol of unity, resilience, and cultural heritage. It is held annually on the third Thursday of May. In 2026, the holiday is marking its 20th anniversary. The idea of Vyshyvanka Day was suggested in 2006 by Lesia Voroniuk, then a student of Yurii Fedkovych State University in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.
Всесвітній день вишиванки — міжнародне свято, яке покликане зберегти давні народні традиції створення та носіння етнічного вишитого українського одягу. Дата проведення — щороку в третій четвер травня. Свято не прив'язане до жодного державного чи релігійного. До нього може долучитися будь-хто, одягнувши вишиванку.
Святу передувала акція «Всесвітній день вишиванки», котру в 2006 році запропонувала Леся Воронюк, студентка факультету історії, політології та міжнародних відносин Чернівецького національного університету імені Юрія Федьковича.

Celebrating Ukrainian Heritage Month in Saskatchewan!

September is Ukrainian Heritage Month in Saskatchewan!!!

The province's proclamation of Ukrainian Heritage Month honors the anniversary of the first documented Ukrainian arrival in Canada on September 7, 1891, and acknowledges the significant contributions of Ukrainian-Canadians to Saskatchewan's social, cultural, political, and economic fabric.

On Sept. 7 - wear your vyshyvanky/embroidered or blue/yellow clothing to celebrate, honour, and promote awareness for the many contributions people of Ukrainian heritage have made in their local communities, our province, and country!!!! Don't forget to share your photos and tag us and any other groups you may wish!!! Let's make a wave in our community and on social media showing our gratitude for this recognition and respect for our people and heritage as one of the founding settler peoples of Saskatchewan!
