The Yukon River Quest is fast approaching, and we hope your training is going well! Now, what about your nutrition? We know paddling 715 km is a challenge for both the body and the mind, but it can also be a challenge for the stomach and gut.
In this nutrition session, our registered dietitian will talk about fueling for training, hydration, nutrition for race days, and strategies to manage nausea and intestinal discomfort.
While this session is catered to marathon paddling, if you are an avid multi-day long distance adventure paddler, this session will be helpful for you too!

On Saturday June 5 from 10:00am - 11:00, NSA is hosting a FREE workout outside at FH Collins track and field for the whole family! Parents bring your kids, and kids bring your parents!
We will show you how to warm up properly for this dynamic outdoor workout, before we pull out our coolest conditioning tools for you to try.
There will be agility relay races, battle ropes, medicine balls, dodgeballs, spikeballs and conditioning games after the workout!
Before, during and after the session, our Registered Sport Dietician Anna Kirkwood will be on site with healthy snacks and a wealth of knowledge- so be sure to pick her brain while you're there!
CSCS Certified Coaches Christine Kirk, Jeremy McCulloch, Ian Weir and Ben McPherson will be there to put you through the paces! (And join you for some of those strides).
Go at your own speed, all fitness levels are welcome. Please register separately for Ian's 4x400 family relay challenge!

Candace obtained her 200 hr Yoga teacher certification in Ireland, studying Vinyasa (Flow)and Yin Yoga(slow, longer holds) She also has certification in ‘kids yoga’ and currently working on ‘pre and post natal yoga’. NSA March athlete of the month: Liz Sutton
Liz has attended NSA running groups since the inception of the programme and has made huge improvements in her running. She is a hard working athlete that is hitting the gym twice a week and running 4 - 5 times, while including cross country skiing and spinning classes mixed in for cross training. Liz been training hard for the Modified Arctic Ultra 15km in March and her major goal is to complete the entire Reckless Raven marathon in June. Liz is dedicated, positive and one of the most coachable athletes. We are excited to see all of her hard work pay off in the up and coming running season.

Did you know that 90% of sport injuries happen during sudden eccentric contractions? (AKA sending it on your ski's, bike or board and trying to absorb your wipe-out/ or changing directions abruptly and buckling under the additional force). NSA's 6-week Strength for adventure athletes course starts with an eccentric strength phase to improve your durability in whatever it is you do. Class is limited to 6 participants to ensure distancing.

Northern Strength Academy Athlete of the Month, November edition: Maude Molgat.
Maude is an impressive 16 year-old gymnast from the Polarettes gymnastics club in Whitehorse. Over the last month, Maude has seen up to 25% increases in the squat and pull-up during our eccentric training phase (pull-up sets of 4 with 35lbs added to her waist)😨💪. Thanks to her committed work with Coach Kim at Polarettes, you can see she's turning heads at the club as well...
