🏀♿ Team Manitoba Builds Momentum at Junior Nationals!
Team Manitoba showcased its talent, determination and continued growth at the 2026 Junior National Wheelchair Basketball Championship, held June 5–7 in Quebec City, Quebec.
The event brought together eight provincial teams from across Canada and served as a key seeding event for the 2027 Canada Winter Games, set for February 27 to March 14, 2027.
Manitoba opened the tournament strong with wins over Nova Scotia 66–21 and New Brunswick 55–36, finishing pool play with a 2–1 record before placing sixth overall in the national standings.
Led by Head Coach Joey Johnson and Team Manager Brett Turcotte, this young and developing Manitoba roster gained valuable experience against some of the top junior wheelchair basketball athletes in the country.
Wheelchair basketball has been part of the Canada Winter Games program since 1995 and is a unique mixed-gender competition open to athletes with physical disabilities and able-bodied athletes. The sport emerged after the Second World War and debuted at the Paralympic Games in 1960.
👏 Congratulations to Team Manitoba athletes:
Brody Johnson (4.5)
Callum Johnson (4.5)

Thank you to the athletes, families, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters who helped make this championship experience possible. The future is bright as Manitoba continues building toward the 2027 Canada Winter Games! 💪🏀
