A word from forwards vice captain Ben

A message from vice Captain Adam Lincoln

“I feel privileged to have been nominated by the club as one of the vice-captains for the 2026/27 season. I’m looking forward to the season ahead, embracing the new coaches' playing style and helping to implement their ideas for the backline.

This season, I’m excited to work with both our senior players and those who are newer to the sport. My goal is to help us achieve the results that I know we have the potential to reach as a team”

A message from captain Sam Athroll

“I'm incredibly proud and excited to have been elected as Chineham Rugby Club captain for a third season in a row. To be trusted by my teammates once again is a huge honour, and it means a great deal to me personally. This club is more than just a team; it's a family, and I'm grateful for the support, commitment, and friendship that everyone brings both on and off the pitch. Looking back on the last two seasons, we've shared some fantastic moments, overcome challenges together, and continued to build something special at Chineham.
As we head into this new season, I'm full of enthusiasm for what we can achieve together. We have a great group of players, coaches, and supporters, and I'm excited to lead a team that continues to work hard, support each other, and represent the club with pride.
My aim is to help create an environment where everyone enjoys their rugby, develops as players, and contributes to the success of the club. Thank you to everyone for the confidence you've shown in me, and I can't wait to get started and make this season our best one yet.”

A word from coach Sean Butterworth

“I joined the club 17 years ago and played my first game against the Isle of Wight at the Vine School. I’ve never looked at leaving since. I captained the second team for many years and played many games for the first team, and I’ve been coached by many great coaches along the way. I’ve learned a lot from them all, and now I’m looking to pass on my knowledge to new and existing players.

Chineham RFC isn’t just a club to me, it’s an extension of my family, one I’ll never leave. I want the best for the players and the club itself. I believe I can pass on a lot and help make this club, and this season, a great one. We have a great coaching team this year, and I believe we’re going to work well together. This isn’t just about the game. It’s about the culture, the spirit, and the love of the game.”

As we move into week three of preseason it’s time to make some announcements.

We’re all thrilled to announce Terry Robson will be taking on the main role as our head coach.

Speaking on his appointment,

“It’s a proud moment for me to step into this role as Head Coach, especially given the journey that’s brought me here. I joined this club as a player, spent a season learning the game from the inside as player-coach, and now I have the privilege of leading the team into this new chapter. Every step of that journey has shaped how I see this club — not just as an institution, but as a family I’ve grown alongside.

We have a genuinely talented group of players here, and my focus from day one will be building on the foundations already laid. It’s not about reinventing what we do — it’s about sharpening it, adding structure and belief, and giving these players the platform to realise the potential I’ve seen in them up close.

More than anything, I want to bring the passion back into how we play. Rugby— like any sport — is at its best when it’s played with heart, when every player on that pitch is fighting for the badge and for each other. That’s the identity I want us to build: hard-working, hungry, and proud to represent this club.”
