Following on from Mondays look back at nine years of Connswater Community Greenway, we are thinking about the role green spaces can play in our everyday health and wellbeing 🌿

Research shows that urban green spaces can support physical activity, mental wellbeing and social connection, while trees and planting can also help provide healthier environments!

But the Greenway is more than just research it is a space that people across East Belfast use and experience in lots of different ways. You might use it for a walk or run, to cycle, spend time with family and friends, enjoy nature, clear your head, or just get from one place to another!

To celebrate week we would love to hear from you and how YOU use the Greenway? Tell us in the comments 🌳

Over the next few months, we will be sharing some fantastic research about the Greenway too so keep an eye out for that!

NINE YEARS ago we celebrated the opening of the Connswater Community Greenway with an event called Piece Together, inviting all our stakeholders and the local community to walk the Greenway and join us at an event at C.S. Lewis Square.

As a result of £23.6m of funding from the The National Lottery Community Fund Living Landmarks in 2007, Connswater Community Greenway remains an exemplar regeneration project delivered in partnership with Belfast City Council it has provided;

- An accessible 16km walking and cycling route
- A flood alleviation scheme protecting 1700 properties
- A wildlife corridor home to Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers and much more
- A space for programmes, events and activities inc Arts Festivals, Fitness, Outdoor Play, engaging with the environment and even Duck Races
- And with lots of Volunteering Opportunities
- A landmark 15-year study with Queens University Belfast has found significant improvements in physical activity, mental wellbeing and community connection

Over the next few weeks we will have a variety of free outdoor activities to promote health and well being, physical activity and the environment as part of our annual campaign.

We are recruiting for an Outreach and Engagement Officer role.

The Outreach and Engagement Officer will play a key role in supporting EastSide Greenway’s climate action work by building strong community relationships, delivering impactful engagement activities, and promoting sustainable attitudes and behaviours. The role will lead outreach initiatives, empower communities and partners, and help drive meaningful climate solutions across the community.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with a diverse range of communities and partners. You will have a demonstrable interest in the environment and strong organisational skills that enable you to interpret, communicate and inspire in ways that are accessible and engaging.

✨ Celebrating our Legends! ✨

Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting our Legacy Celebration at Templemore Baths and what a wonderful occasion it was!

The room was filled with laughter, pride, celebration and joy as we recognised the incredible achievements of our amazing young people.

We celebrated those who received their awards, certifications and accreditations, recognising not only what they have achieved, but the dedication, resilience and hard work that has brought them to this point.

As they take the next step into the next chapter of their lives, they leave equipped with new skills, confidence and experiences to continue their journey and achieve even more.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate with us, and to everyone who has supported and contributed to this project along the way.

And, in the words of Siobhan and Laura…
