Little Wing Pizzeria Junior League 2026 – A Flying Start!

What a brilliant start to our Little Wing Junior League 2026! After a later launch than planned, we're absolutely thrilled to report that the first two rounds are complete, and the competition is heating up 🏓

The League

Sixteen NextGen players across eight teams have battled through four rounds of Davis Cup-style table tennis, and the standard has been great. We've got six Ormeau teams – all cheekily named after Little Wing's finest pizzas: ANCHOVIE, MARGHERITA, PICCANTE, POLLO, TUSCAN, and GIARDINO – plus we're delighted to welcome two brilliant teams from Kingsland: Double J and The Kingsland Duo.

The format keeps things exciting: Player A faces Player A, Player B meets Player B, followed by a doubles rubber. Teams earn 3 points for a win and 1 for a loss, with bonus points up for grabs (1 point per singles win, 2 for the doubles).

Current Standings

Team Leaders:
Ormeau ANCHOVIE (Tobias & Yara) are flying high at the top with 27 points from a perfect record of 4 wins, with Ormeau MARGHERITA (Vincent & Isaac) chasing hard in second place on 19 points. Double J Kingsland (James & Joseph) are holding third with 17 points, whilst Ormeau PICCANTE, POLLO, and TUSCAN are all locked together on 16 points each.

Individual Stars:
Three players are sitting top with unbeaten records and maximum 20 points: Charlie Murray (Ormeau POLLO), Tobias Gal (Ormeau ANCHOVIE), and Yanis Xyntaris (Ormeau PICCANTE) – all sporting flawless 100% win rates. Just behind them, James Brookfield, Yara Elhusein, Vincent Darragh, and Yassmeen Elhusein are all performing brilliantly on 15 points with 75% win rates.

Special Thanks
A massive shout-out to Euan Hanna and Peadar Sheridan, who've done an outstanding job organising and running the league. The feedback from players and parents has been fantastic, and it's clear these lads have put in serious effort to make this a success – well done boys, we really appreciate you stepping up for our NextGen players!

And of course, huge thanks to Little Wing for their sports bursary, which made this whole league possible. Your support is helping develop the next generation of table tennis talent, and we couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity!

What's Next?
Two more rounds coming up through May and June – plenty of time for teams to climb the table and players to chase down those leaders. Let's keep this momentum going!

Allsop and Wallace delivered the standout performances at St Anne’s yesterday, lifting the Open and Over 40s titles at the final Sport NI Ulster Senior Series event of the season.

Open event – Allsop takes the title

Christopher Allsop underlined his top seeding in the Open, navigating a strong field to take the title. Seeded 1, he came through the top half of the draw and produced a key quarter‑final win over VJ Malayo, holding his nerve 3–2 in a tight battle decider. In the semi final he was clinical, beating Oksana Pavlova 3–0 and went on to beat St Annes Rodney McKirgan 3-0 in final. Phil Wallace also flew the Ormeau flag strongly, reaching the last 16 before losing out to Rodney McKigran, while Karsten Close fell in the first round to series regular Daniel Irwin.

Over 40s – Wallace on top

In the Over 40s, Ormeau’s Phil Wallace showed his class throughout, justifying his number‑one seeding with a dominant run to the title. He opened with a straight‑sets win over Gus Agnew, then beat Andrew Davies in the quarter‑finals and David Irwin in the semis without dropping a game. In the final Wallace completed the job 3–1 over Oksana Pavlova, adding another senior series title to his season and giving Ormeau a second gold of the day.

Over 60s – strong Ormeau presence

The Over 60s draw also featured Ormeau players, with Breandán Ó Fiaich and Chris White both in action. Ó Fiaich, seeded 8, came through the quarter‑final with a 3-1 win over Roy Coard before narrowly losing out in the semi final stage to Barry Dickson, who went on to lift the event. Chris White reached the quarters but lost to top seed Gus Agnew.

It also caps a season where Ormeau juniors and seniors have regularly featured late in draws right across Ulster, showing real progress in performance and consistency.

A big thank you to Table Tennis Ulster for putting on another excellent Sport NI Senior Series, which has given our players high‑quality competition over the whole season. Thanks also to St Anne’s for hosting and running yesterday’s event so smoothly – from well‑organised draws to a great hall set‑up, it made for a brilliant day of table tennis.

Huge congratulations to our Ormeau NextGen players on an outstanding achievement at the Ulster Primary Schools Championships 👏

Charlie (Strandtown), Vincent (Strandtown), and Yara (Strandmillis) all claimed titles in their respective events:

🏆 Charlie – P7 Boys Champion
🏆 Vincent – P6 Boys Champion
🏆 Yara – P7 Girls Champion

A fantastic reflection of the hard work and progress these players have been putting in the Easter Camps and last few months — great to see it paying off on the Ulster Schools events!

We’d also like to wish Charlie and Vincent the very best of luck as they represent Strandtown at the All-Ireland Finals tomorrow in Dublin. We’ll all be cheering you on! 💪

Huge congratulations to Yara Mohammed!

Yara made her debut for Ireland at the Primary Schools' Six Nations Internationals in Largs, Scotland — what a milestone! 👏

Team Event: Yara and her Irish teammates brought home silver, narrowly pipped by a strong English side. A brilliant effort all round. 🥈

Singles: After a tough group featuring some of the eventual event winners, Yara fought her way to the final of the consolation event — a fantastic showing against top-class opposition.

A massive well done to our ladies and girls coach Jennifer, who captained the Irish girls' team and came back hugely impressed with Yara's attitude and potential. We're excited to support her pathway every step of the way. 🌟

Shout out too to Conn Higgins and the Irish boys' team who returned as champions 🏆 and to Ryan Li, singles champion — superb stuff! It was brilliant having both Ryan and Daniel at our performance camps over Easter. Conn, as ever, is doing outstanding work with these players. 💪

The future's looking bright! 🏓
