Kodiaks get seasons off to a mixed start.
Kodiaks 1 began their season in Chelmsford with a local derby against the Cobras.
Getting off to the perfect start with debutant Beth Calvert blew past a Cobras defender, to r***e Kodiaks into the lead but, it wasn't long before the hosts had equalised. Poking home a rebound to equalise. A freak goal off a clearance gave Chelmsford the lead before two quick goals saw the first period end 4-1 to the Cobras.
Cambridge struggled to make clear chances until a Scarlett Skelton tip was just saved. Chelmsford extended their lead with a deflected shot making it 5-1.
Despite the goal chase, Kodiaks kept the pressure on Chelmsford but couldn't break through to Waddington's net. Finally, a wide Amy Robery shot was picked up by Christina Ashley, who buried the remind to reduce the deficit.
The game ended 5-2 but the new look Kodiaks showed promise in a tough game.
Player of the game was new Kodiak, Monica Petrosino for a hugely energetic first game back on the ice.
Up next for Kodiaks 1 is an away trip to Swindon to take on current league champs Swindon Topcats on Saturday 17th October at 13:10
Our joint home opener with Kodiaks 2 is on Saturday 24th October as we welcome both Chelmsford Cobras and Pythons

A thrilling start to the season!
The first game of the season saw Kodiaks 2 travel to Basingstoke for an exciting opening fixture. With Basingstoke returning to the league after 8 years and the Kodiaks looking to start the season strongly, both teams had plenty to play for.
Starting as they mean to go on, Nat Piotrowicz opened the scoring just 2½ minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. Basingstoke quickly responded to level the score.
The Kodiaks then took full advantage of their first power play, with Cherry Hambelton-Smith setting up Scarlett Shelton, who scored her first of the game. The first period ended with the Kodiaks ahead.
Both teams came out pushing for the next goal, but it was Basingstoke who found the breakthrough, levelling the score before adding another to take the lead for the first time.
The Kodiaks responded with determination, and just before the end of the period, Scarlett Shelton scored her second of the game to bring the scores level once again.
With everything still to play for, the Kodiaks regained the lead on the power play. Nat Piotrowicz scored her second of the game, combining with Scarlett Shelton and Emily Chrysostomou.
