Saturdays match report from our u14s girls (purple)⚽️

Away at Peterborough United today. We knew it would be a tough fixture and into the wind we were up against it first half. Peterborough got ahead from a speculative long range effort that was a bit too much for Ava with the wind carrying it over the line. Their second came from a corner which bounced off Molly at the back post to their striker who finished from close range.

The rest of the half we matched them and went close with Molly breaking into the box from Marley’s through ball but the keeper saved well.

Second half we had the wind, but a misplaced pass saw Peterborough get the ball at the edge of the box and the finish this time was a belter for 3-0.

Lots of battle followed with big tackles going in from both teams. Jenice got some joy up the right wing but we couldn’t find the killer ball.

With a minute to go Peterborough had one last chance. The strike was good and Ava’s save onto the bar was excellent but the ball hit her on the way down and went in for 4-0.

No complaints from our side and the girls were collectively excellent today. Great spirit and physicality embodied most by Player of the Game Robyn who may have put in the hardest tackle I’ve seen in girls football today. Well done girls!

Match report from Saturday for the u16 girls!!!⚽️⚽️

Away at Bottisham today. An attritional game given the conditions with a big pitch testing fitness levels on the first league game of the season and the strongest wind ever. With the wind against us first half we had to work hard to create chances, leila making a few good saves to keep us in it. One moment of absolute class between sasha and hannah, as they passed it between each other around their entire team, which allowed hannah to break through the middle into the box and slot it top right. 1 - 0 at the break. Thinking we’d have the wind with us second half, we hoped it might be a bit easier...but the wind had other ideas and seemed to change, ensuring we spent a large chunk of the second half with it against us once again. Regardless there was really only one team in it, creating chance after chance for maddie, bethan, sasha and hannah but a combination of excellent goalkeeping and bad bounces kept the score at 1-0.... A good win and, whilst it could’ve been more comfortable, we’ll take it to start the season with 3 points...player of the game went to sof for a solid game at the back digging us out of a few holes. Well done girls, on to the next one.

MATCH REPORT U14 GIRLS PURPLE!!

First league match at home to Newmarket today. An even affair in the first half as the girls played into the wind. Chances were hard to come by but a whipped in corner from Paige was met well by Marley. We think it went in, but the ref gave a penalty for a hand on the line. Molly finished off the penalty in any case.

With the wind in the second half the girls looked more comfortable. Millie and Molly fought for position in the box, the ball finally finding Khia who finished for 2-0.

With 10 to go Marley picked up the ball in midfield and played a great pass to Millie who turned and slotted a lovely finish for 3-0.

Jenice twisted her ankle in the final minute, the only sore point of a well deserved win. Flo got Player of the Game for a solid performance at full back. Didn’t put a foot wrong. Well done girls.

MATCH REPORT!!!

Friendly at home to Haverhill today. With 11 players the girls knew they had to play the full game and they lived up to the challenge first half.

Luka made a good forward run and kept the pressure on to force her defender into an own goal when she tried to clear. Then Hannah played in Maddie who squeezed a shot through the keeper’s legs for 2-0.

Second half Haverhill started brightly and scored after a break up the left and a shot that Leila couldn’t keep out.

Hannah restored a cushion picking up a throw in and blasting one from inside the box. She added another after Flossy picked her out and a third when Maddie played her in.

Maddie finished off the scoring with a long ball forwards that their keeper misjudged, the bounce taking it in.

Haverhill got a consolation goal at the end but the 6-2 win was well deserved.

Kitty got player of the game for a solid game at left back. Well done girls.

See Hannah’s awesome hat trick scored in 10 minutes!!!⚽️⚽️
