Happy 3rd birthday JJ! 🎈🎂

Welcome to our JJ City 🌆🚙

Today in Penguins we have been celebrating our friend JJ’s 3rd birthday where we followed on from his current interest in Cars, vehicles, and rolling. So the ladies created a City for the children to explore where we had a range of different vehicles, pipes for rolling, and so much more. Throughout the children had great fun rolling the cars down the different ramps, taking them on all different journeys around the map 🗺️ before exploring different parts of the map too. The children spoke about their journey and where they wanted to go, where they went anywhere from the park, to Sainsbury’s, to swimming to their homes. Throughout we also spoke about cars where the children told me all about the different vehicles and what they knew about the different vehicles too. We later went on to play with balloons, have a dance and enjoy JJ’s birthday party! 🥳

Later on at snack time we enjoyed some Yummy cake kindly provided by JJ’s parents, thank you so much for providing this cake too. 🍰🥳

All in all we have had a fabulous day celebrating JJ’s 3rd birthday and developing our imaginative play, fine and gross motor skills and so much more throughout our play too. We can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

🎉Physical development 🎉

🎂Communication and language🎂

🥳Personal, social, and emotional development🥳

🎈Mathematics🎈

🥰Understanding the world🥰

🎊Literacy🎊

AT HOME 🏡 you could go for a walk and see what vehicles you can see along the way and share what you find with the ladies via tapestry we would love to see! ✈️🚗🚛🚕🚍

REMEMBER to share all your at home adventures on tapestry as we would love to see what you have been doing at home and enhance your play at nursery too! 🥰

Well done Penguins 🐧

💛 Mental Health Day: Exploring Our Feelings 😊😢😡😴

Today in Owls room, we have been celebrating Mental Health Day by exploring our emotions and talking about how we feel! The ladies set up a colourful feelings table with emotion resources, books, balloons, mirrors and a fun colour-mixing activity for the children to investigate.

The children were encouraged to talk about different emotions, recognise facial expressions and share times when they have felt happy, sad, excited, worried or angry. We read stories together and discussed how everyone experiences different feelings and that all emotions are important.

The intent of this activity was for the children to develop their understanding of emotions, build confidence in expressing their feelings and learn ways to communicate their needs. We encouraged the children to reflect on how they were feeling and to listen respectfully to the thoughts and feelings of others.

The ladies implemented this activity by providing emotion-themed resources, mirrors for the children to explore their facial expressions, books about feelings and a colourful painting activity which encouraged discussion about emotions and self-expression. The children enjoyed talking about the different colours and using balloons as a way of mark making the paper.

The impact of this activity was that the children became more confident in identifying and naming their emotions. They showed kindness towards their friends, demonstrated excellent listening skills and engaged in meaningful conversations about how they feel and what makes them feel happy and safe.

Hello Yellow 💛

Today in Penguin’s we have been wearing yellow to support Young minds representing the importance of children’s mental health. So we have worn yellow and done our very own yellow treasure basket to support children’s mental health too. The children were intrigued by the treasure basket and enjoyed exploring all the different contents in the basket too!

A BIG thank you to all the children who got involved today! 💛

🔢 Counting and Shapes🔺▪️

Today, in Owls room, we have been practising our counting and shapes! The ladies set our lots of number stones, tiles and the number and shape mats. The children were encouraged to go around the room and find different shapes and numbers to match them with the ones on the mat! The children enjoyed using the magnifying glasses to find the small objects and we spoke about how the magnifying glasses make things look bigger, comparing sizes between different objects.

The intent of this activity was for the children to explore and practise their numbers and shapes, solidifying our mathematical understanding. The children were encouraged to explore all of the shapes and numbers, looking for them around the room and comparing!

The ladies implemented this activity by setting up the mats with numbers and shapes on, number stones and magnifying glasses, along with providing the children with dice and tape measures to look at numbers in different contexts and match them to the ones on the mat.

The impact of this activity was that the children focused on their own problem solving, looking for different shapes around the room and working together to identify them and count the corners and sides!

SPLAT painting! 🫟

Today we have been doing some SPLAT painting, leading on from the children’s interest in painting and messy play. We started off by soaking our cotton wool in the paint before placing them on our paper and holding the hammer and splatting the paint across our paper. The children were able to make lots of different marks of all different kinds. We spoke about the colours we could see, the marks we were making and what we could do next. We also spoke about how to hold the hammer safely too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to get creative in a new way and use their imagination. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having different paint and hammers to explore with. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to get creative, use their imagination and develop their colour recognition.

All in all we had a fabulous time painting and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

Our friend from the garden! 🪴 🐛

Today our friend EB brought in a caterpillar she had found at home before nursery today! So we sat together and had a chat about the caterpillar and all about him, where he lives, the foods he eats and so much more. The children looked at the little home EB and her Mammy had created at home. The children even tried to feed the caterpillar a leaf too. Meg went on to set up an activity following on from this interest using our glass insects and our insect books too, where we looked at all the different bugs and creepy crawlies, looking at all the different types of insects. We used our glass insects and took a closer look at them too!

The INTENT of this activity was to follow on from the children’s interest and let them learn about the world around us and our insect friends. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having different books and glass insects for the children to look at alongside the caterpillar EB had brought us. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to learn about nature and the insects that live around us.

All in all we had a fabulous morning exploring the caterpillar and the insects and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Ducklings - 7/10 post 🐥

Happy 2nd birthday MS 🧁🎈🎀

Today in ducklings we celebrated the very special birthday of one of our little ones, with all of her favourite things.. bubbles, balloons and babies, and not forgetting birthday cake of course 🎂

Together we explored the babies, feeding them, helping to put on their nappies and giving them lots of cuddles too.
MS also took off her shoes and put them on the baby all by herself.

We bounced the balloons around and all stretched up tall to try and pop the bubbles that the ladies blew for us.

At song time we sang happy birthday to our friend MS, who had a great big smile on her face throughout and we even sang again at snack time and got a very special treat of a yummy cupcake afterwards (thank you to MS’s mum)

Simply sharing a friends birthday with them gave us endless learning opportunities;

🎈 supporting our personal, social and emotional development and sense of self.

🎈 supporting our communication as we sang together and communicated during the activity.

🎈 developing our physical skills with the feeding of the baby, the popping of the bubbles and the stretching to pop the bubbles, aswell as our physical self care skills too.

We truly hope you had a lovely birthday MS and enjoyed your celebrations with family too, we can’t wait to hear all about it.

Carly and your ducklings ladies 🤍

🏖️Making Kinetic Sand🐚

Today, in Owls, we enjoyed making and exploring kinetic sand! The children have been interested in sand and play-dough recently, so we felt this was a good way to combine the two! We decided to make a recipe board, set out the ingredients for the kinetic sand and let the children practise their reading skills, reading the recipe and telling the ladies how much of everything to put in and use their own independence to weigh out the ingredients to make the sand! The children then explored the texture of the sand, discussed using different food colourings and even attempted building some sandcastles!

The intent of this activity was to support the children’s reading skills, working on letter and number recognition, fine motor skills, creativity and independence! We wanted the children to explore a range of textures, work on their sharing skills and explore their own creativity!

The ladies implemented this activity by setting out all of the ingredients for the kinetic sand, along with the recipe, a big bowl and lots of kitchen appliances to explore their own independence sand in! We encouraged the children to read the recipe themselves, whilst being there to provide support if needed, then we encouraged them to take turns adding ingredients into the bowl. The children made their own decisions whether to add more or less of certain ingredients!

The impact of this action was that the children worked on their reading skills and recognition, whilst also focusing on their team work, sharing and communication skills, talking about their own ideas, asking for turns and telling others when we should add more or less.

Happy 3rd birthday RH! 🎈🎂

Welcome to Dinoworld! 🦖🌍

Today in Penguins we have been celebrating our friend RH’s 3rd birthday where we followed on from his current interest in Dinosaur’s. So the ladies created a Dino world with play dough for the children to explore where we had a range of different loose parts, play dough, dinosaurs and so much more. Throughout the children used their imagination making cake for the dino using the play dough adding candles and pretending to blow them out too. The children also got creative using the loose parts to enhance the play dough enveloping items inside the play dough too. We spoke about the things we were doing and how we could develop them further. The children enjoyed singing happy birthday to the dinosaurs and roaring with the dinosaur too.

Later on at snack time we enjoyed some Yummy cake kindly provided by RH’s parents, thank you so much for providing this cake too. 🍰🥳
