🎣 Bait & Bait Presentation (My Explanation)
When it comes to bait and bait presentation, I’ve always been a strong believer in keeping things small, compact and tidy.
Fish are naturally foraging for food, picking up scraps of fish, worms and other natural food sources, so to me, a smaller bait can often make perfect sense. That’s not to say big baits don’t work , they definitely have their place, especially when targeting bigger species such as tope. But for general fishing, I’ll almost always favour a small, compact bait paired with a smaller hook.
Another really important factor is matching your hook size to the size of your bait. This can make a huge difference to how the bait sits, moves and ultimately presents itself in the water.
I also like using thinner-gauge hooks where appropriate. They require less force to pe*****te the fish’s mouth and are less intrusive within the bait, allowing more delicate baits such as worm, squid strips and sandeel to look and move more naturally.
For me, it’s all about keeping the presentation as natural and effective as possible. Sometimes, less really is more. 🎣
