Women's Premier League: Brighton beat Sporting Club Albion in play-off 29/05/2026

10 years ago to the day Brighton women won the National Premier League Final against Sporting Albion who were affiliated with West Brom at Adams Park. It meant the Albion were to compete in the brand new WSL 2 but we had to wait longer than usual as the league was to transform from a summer series to be synced up with the rest of the footballing calender. A special shortened WSL Spring Series was conjured up to fill the gap, and the Albion took part in a half a dozen games with a certain Alessia Russo playing for the Seagulls. Fran Kirby was Player of the Season that year and we then played a full season in WSL 2 before we were promoted to the WSL in place of Doncaster Rovers Belles. WSL 2 was changed to the Championship for a few years before reverting back to WSL 2 but the Albion have been a constant mainstay in the WSL ever since.
