23 entries from Durham ARC braved the blustery wind on Saturday to complete the second round of the Long Distance Sculling Series and Tees Small Boats Head, maintaining the momentum from the first round by adding a further 6 event wins to the 7 gained at South Hylton.

The Masters Women led the way with the two fastest times of the day by DARC crews coming in the morning LDS, producing victories for the WMasB 4x- in 21.02.2 and the WMasD 4x- in 21.06.5, while Livvy Terry followed up her win at South Hylton with another in the WJ17 1x, recording the second fastest time of the day by a Women's single sculler.

The J15 boys had a good afternoon, taking victory in the J15 2x in the SBH, while Daniel McConway won band 2 of the J15 1x in 24.27.8, a time faster than that recorded by the band 1 winner.

Also in the SBH there was a victory for the Masters Men in the MasF 2x.

All crews put in good performances that also included 7 second and 3 third place finishes.

● £4.50 each for ages 12+ (plus a small booking fee)
● £3.50 each for ages 4-11 (plus a small booking fee)
● Kids aged 3 and under going FREE. (3 and under still require a ticket via the ticket link)

Durham ARC has 16 entries for the opening round of the 2026 Long Distance Sculling (LDS) Series further down the River Wear at South Hylton tomorrow, a time trial over 4750 metres with hazards including bends, bridges and shipwrecks.

The race starts at Cox Green with the first of the 69 entries due to set off at 10.30am, and finishes near City of Sunderland Rowing Club.

Thanks to SI Events for capturing great photos of yesterday's Tyne Single Scullers Head. The Durham scullers had a good day despite the windy conditions and almost all achieved podium positions in their respective events, with wins for Debra Harland in Women's Masters C 1x and Deirdre Bruce in Women's Masters E 1x.

The 2026 Long Distance Sculling Series (LDS) run by the Northern Rowing Council takes place at different locations in the Northern Region over 6 consecutive Saturdays, starting with South Hylton on October 3rd and culminating with Durham LDS on November 7th.

Four of the rounds combine with a separate Small Boats Head on the same day organised by the host club.

Entries for each round open on Sunday 3 weeks prior to the round. Entries for South Hylton LDS therefore open on Sunday, September 13th.

Here are the results from the weekend's Sunday League sweep event at Tyne United RC, to whom many thanks for hosting. Luckily for us the very heavy rain stopped just on cue at 12 noon and we stayed warm and dry for the rest of the day. Durham ARC Masters Women have 6 entries in the 2026 World Masters Regatta held over 5 days between September 9th and 13th at Lake Bled, Slovenia in what is set to become the largest rowing regatta ever staged, with over 4700 athletes from 51 countries so far entered.
