Durham University Staff FC

Another solid league season in the books for the Staff, with a 5th place finish in Division 3 of the College Football pyramid. We had a shot at promotion until the final match of the year, but South B called in all their ringers from their Prem side to swindle their way to victory on the final day.

The 2025/26 campaign isn't quite over though! The Staff won their opening round match-up against Grey B 4-3 this weekend to progress to the second round of the Summer Cup 🏆 That means at least one more match in May and a chance to knock out another higher division side.

Training is still on at 7pm every Wednesday all spring and summer, let us know if you'd like to come down! Open to Durham University staff (academic or PS), postdocs, PhDs, and their partners.

Training takes place Wednesdays from 6.45pm to 8pm on the 3G2 pitch at Maiden Castle. It's £2.50 per person (to cover pitch fees).

We also have an 11-a-side team that competes in the college sport league and in friendlies against other clubs, as well as holding social events throughout the year.

Big congrats to the honourees at our end of season award ceremony this past weekend!

Jack W takes home another Golden Boot and the Captains' Player of the Season award, while Guy was voted Players' Player of the Season and split the Silver Boot with Jack M.

Defensive midfielder Bruce only scored once this year (0.11g p/90), but he made it count, taking home the Goal of the Season trophy for his long-distance strike in our 3-2 win over Collingwood I.

Just because the students quit working over summer doesn't mean we do 💪⚽️

Finally, some good weather!

The Staff beat St Cuthbert's C 7-1 this weekend to climb into the top half of the Division 3 table.

Staff notched a 3-0 win over Hatfield C this weekend to continue their run of good form, with a six match unbeaten run in the league stretching back to last season. Match winner scored by Captain Phil (pictured).

Floodlit Cup kicks off under the lights on Wednesday night, followed by a league match against Van Mildert E on Saturday.

After an excellent season that saw us secure promotion and secure upset wins in both cup competitions, awards were handed out based on player and captain votes:

It took penalties to decide it, but a couple saves and clutch spot-kicks earned a 2-2 (4-1) victory. On to the next round!
