The Gyms Biggest Mistake

Is not caring about the members. We aren’t a globe gym who wants sleeper members. We want all our members in consistently.

This is why we will message you if you miss two days of training. This is to help with consistency and to help you get the results you wanted at our No Strings Intro.

This was never really about losing weight.

I started using my nutrition app properly on 9th June after a period of being injured and not feeling great.

I’d also had a health scare. A scan showed fatty liver disease, and I was advised to reduce my body fat, particularly visceral fat.

So that became the goal: improve my health, reduce fat and hold onto as much muscle as possible.

Using my app for nutrition and our InBody270 at CrossFit Murrayfield to track progress, here’s what’s changed from 9th June → 17th August:

Weight: 82.8kg → 79.5kg
Body fat: 21.6% → 17.4%
Fat mass: 17.9kg → 13.8kg
Skeletal muscle: 37.4kg → 37.7kg
Visceral fat: 7 → 5
Waist-to-hip ratio: 0.95 → 0.87

So, 3.3kg down on the scales, 4.1kg less body fat and muscle maintained.

But the number I care about most isn’t my weight.

My follow-up scan has shown that I no longer have fatty liver disease.

That’s the real win for me.

It’s also a reminder of why I don’t like judging progress purely by bodyweight. The aim isn’t always just to get lighter.

Lose fat. Keep muscle. Improve your health.

And use the data to make better decisions along the way.

Small caveat: the InBody270 uses bioelectrical impedance to estimate body composition, including visceral fat. It isn’t a direct medical measurement like a CT or MRI. Hydration, food and training can affect readings, so I focus on the trend across repeated tests rather than any single number.
