🌿 Looking for a lovely space to bring your group, workshop or cooking course to life? 🍴

Our straw bale kitchen and community garden at The Outback could be just the place!

We’re looking to connect with local groups, workshop leaders, cooks, schools, nurseries, community organisations and businesses who might be looking for a welcoming space to host something special.

Whether you’re planning:

👩‍🍳 A cooking course or food workshop
🌱 A community group or regular session
🎨 A creative or wellbeing workshop
🤝 A meeting or team activity
🎉 A small event or gathering
🧺 Or simply a picnic in our community garden...

Our kitchen is fully equipped and can comfortably seat up to 24 people, with our beautiful organic community garden right outside.

It’s a warm, welcoming and unique setting — perfect for bringing people together, learning something new and enjoying a bit of community spirit. 💚

🌱 Our community garden is what it is because of the people who make it happen. 💚

From beekeeping and grass cutting to fruit picking and packing to cooking family-style dinners to share, our amazing volunteers bring their time, skills and enthusiasm to everything we do.

🐝 This year has been a bumper year for honey and we’ve enjoyed an incredible harvest of organically grown produce too! 🍎🥕🌿

But our garden is about more than what we grow. It’s about people, connection and community.

It’s a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone can get involved, learn something new, share skills, enjoy good food and simply spend time together.

A huge thank you to every volunteer, staff member and community member who helps make our garden the special place it is. 💚

Growing food. Growing friendships. Growing community. 🌱

Join us for another Calderdale Festival of Food event, the 'Calderdale Food Gathering' takes place on Thursday 17th September.

Come along and discover the people, projects and producers helping to build a better food future across Calderdale. We'll be selling our organically grown produce 🍇🧅🥕

When: Thursday 17th September, 11am to 4pm
Where: Albany Arcade, Halifax Borough Market

The Calderdale Food Gathering is a celebration of everything that makes our local food scene so special. Whether you’re passionate about food, interested in sustainability, looking for ways to get involved locally, or simply enjoy discovering new tastes and ideas, there’s lots to explore on the day!

🍞🌿 We’re excited to be part of the Calderdale Festival of Food 🌿🍎

From 7–20 September, Calderdale will be celebrating two weeks of eating, cooking, growing and exploring local food – and we’re delighted that The Outback Community Kitchen & Garden is part of it! 💚

As part of the festival, we’re hosting a special Introduction to Sourdough Making workshop, where you can discover the art of traditional sourdough baking in our beautiful community garden.

You’ll enjoy a sourdough tasting, learn the basics, prepare your own loaf to bake at home, take a tour of The Outback garden and even take home a jar of our homemade Outback jam, made with fruit grown right here! 🍓🍞

We can't wait to taste Companyhfx's Asian pear chutney 👀 they'll be serving it up in their picnic plates at Sowerby Bridges's iconic festival next weekend.

We were lucky with the rain today for our family gardening session ☔ it didn't arrive until we'd just finished 🪏

We've been picking potatoes, plums and raspberries and we enjoyed getting creative and designing our own bunting 🐝🐞🦋🐛🪱

A lovely end to our summer activities. Next we're getting ready for the Calderdale Festival of Food sourdough workshop with RUSTIC SOURDOUGH BREAD AND BAKES and our stall at the Calderdale Food Gathering Halifax Borough Market
