A little bit of scrap-busting at Sew You Can this week! ✂️♻️

Our young sewists raided my ever-growing collection of fabric scraps 🤣, chose their favourites and turned them into these gorgeous hexie patchwork cushions.

They learned how to choose and arrange their fabrics, use appliqué and decorative stitches, construct their cushions and discovered that even the tiniest scraps can be turned into something fabulous. ✨

I LOVE how different they all turned out — each one completely their own. 🥰

Learning to sew is about so much more than following instructions — it’s experimenting, making choices, building confidence and getting to say “I made that!” ❤️

Harrods yesterday had this Dior collection of miniature dresses 👗 coats all in glass cases 💕💕💕
I wanted to open it up and tough all the fabrics and ooo and ahhh over the intricate sewing that created them all 💕💕💕

The rising popularity of crafts such as quilt making and crochet has been partly driven by social media demonstration videos as well as crafting TV programmes such as The Great British Sewing Bee. The trend for buying secondhand clothing – which may need to be altered at home – is also driving a desire to learn sewing skills. About a fifth of Britons sew, rising to 30% among women, with young people showing a keen interest in buying and making handcrafted items. Recent research from the Crafts Council found that craft participation had risen from 15% to 20% of UK adults in only a few years, bringing making into the mainstream. Liberty is responding! It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on what the ‘big guys’ are doing in their businesses. If they’re moving into something, look into that area too. They have all the research behind them. Use it! ✨ Summer Sewing Camp – What a Week! ✨

Last week we wrapped up another fantastic Sew You Can Summer Sewing Camp, finishing on Thursday 30th July.

Here’s what our amazing young sewists created:

As always, there was plenty of laughter, new friendships, confidence growing with every stitch, and so much creativity. Watching everyone leave with handmade projects they are genuinely proud of is what it’s all about.

Today’s project was a real favourite – beautiful personalised bunting made using the gorgeous Flower Bloom collection from Art Gallery Fabrics. With its bold florals, warm yellows, moss greens and playful vintage-inspired prints, it was the perfect choice for our creative campers. 🌼🌸✨

The girls have worked so hard this week, learning new sewing skills, building confidence on the sewing machines and creating projects they can be proud of. ❤️

I think you’ll agree the finished bunting looks absolutely fabulous! 🤩

Well done everyone – I can’t wait to see what we create next week!
