After a historic 2025/26 campaign, HRFC Men's section are now building towards an even bigger 2026/27 season!

Dates for the diary:

🏉 Tuesday 7th-Thursday 16th July - TOUCH TOURNAMENT

🏉 Tuesday 21st July - PRESEASON SESSION 1

🏉 Thursday 23rd July - PRESEASON SESSION 2

🏉 Friday 24th July - 2026/27 SEASON LAUNCH EVENING

We welcome anyone aged 17+ who wishes to join the club, whether you are an experienced player, or new to rugby.

A word about the weather.

We know it has not been the most summery of starts to June in Hitchin, but do not let that put you off. The festival marquee is large, fully covered and has plenty of space to keep everyone comfortable and dry. Whatever the sky is doing outside, inside it is warm, welcoming and there are around 200 real ales, ciders, perries and meads waiting for you.

Doors are open today until 11pm. Come and join us.

Walk-up tickets are available at the door, no need to book in advance. Everyone is welcome.

If you are not drinking, you do not pay to come in. Free entry for under-18s, non-drinkers and designated drivers, so bring the family along. The marquee is dry, comfortable and stocked with around 200 real ales, ciders, perries and meads.

Get your sunnies on and spot the Festival Team or join the throng as they tour Hitchin spreading the word that it all kicks off, without a ball in sight, at 5PM on Thursday 4th June and goes on until Saturday 6th evening.

Congratulations to Zac, Harry and Adam who yesterday represented Hertfordshire Rugby RFU Under 17s in a thumping 53-26 win away at Middlesex!

County selection at all levels is ultra competitive, and these young men have worked incredibly hard on their game over the years to earn their caps. Everyone at the club is immensely proud of their achievement 🦔🏉

🦔🏆 2XV DO THE DOUBLE 🏆🦔

Hitchin 2XV add the Herts President's Trophy to their Counties 3 Herts title, sweeping everything before them in a historic 2025/26 campaign!

It was a nervy, low scoring thriller of a match that had everything, and the two sides could only be separated by a single conversion.

Cheshunt led for much of the match, scoring an early try and two first half penalties. A Ben Lokos try and two Cian Hynes kicks saw us trail 11-10 at the interval.

A tremendous carry from Number 8 Joe Burton gave us a 15-11 lead, but pressure from Cheshunt eventually told with an intricate set play from the back of a 5 metre scrum putting them back ahead.

With less than 10 minutes to play, a nerveless Hynes penalty from the 15 metre line gave Hitchin a precious 2 point lead, that they defended with everything they had, and Will Roberts thumped the ball off the field, greeted by the final whistle and wild celebrations!

We knew we would have to be at our best to beat Cheshunt Rugby Club and so it proved. This was the seventh mens fixture between the two clubs this season, and all seven have been played to the core values of the sport. Both clubs work relentlessly to deliver amateur rugby to their local community, and both clubs are flourishing at all levels of Mini & Youth, Womens and Mens rugby as a result. All at Hitchin Rugby Club will be cheering on Cheshunt 1XV at Twickenham next Saturday, and look forward to the many games between our clubs for seasons to come.

Our last participation in the Herts President's Trophy was seven years prior, at this venue, a heartbreaking defeat to St Albans. That day, it was our 1XV competing for the Trophy. In 2026, our 2XV bring it home to Old Hale Way!
