If equality was achieved tomorrow… would women’s sport still need special programmes to exist?
It’s fantastic to see female inclusion celebrated today, but the real goal is building systems where girls and women never have to ask for permission to belong in sport.
That’s the future we’re working toward.
Not just today. Every day.

Silent Support Weekend is back! 14th & 15th March ⚽🤫
Too often, there are too many voices from the touchline, too many opinions, and too much unnecessary distraction.
It’s why we are getting involved again with Silent Support Weekend to promote Respect in Youth Football, and we want you to play an important part.
Our aim is simple: to raise awareness of the need to create a positive and pressure-free environment in which children can enjoy football and learn to love and develop their game.

🚨 A Cry for Help – Urgent Support Needed 🚨
Last year, GWL UNITED acquired two full 4G football pitches, including shock pad and rubber crumb, from SCORE in Huddersfield. As demonstrated in the photos attached, the pitches were very new and represented a great opportunity.
Shortly afterwards, SCORE transitioned into The Padel Shed and is no longer a football facility. We were proud to secure this high quality surface with the vision of keeping grassroots sport alive and accessible within our communities.
Our intention was clear:
To reinvest these pitches into a new community sports barn in Bradford, creating inclusive provision for girls’ football, disability sport, and small-sided participation.
Unfortunately, the Bradford venue fell through.
We then worked tirelessly to secure an alternative site in Milnsbridge. After lengthy negotiations and significant time investment, that opportunity has also fallen through in the last couple of weeks.
We are now in a very difficult position.
The 4G carpet rolls are currently stored on a site in Bradford and must be removed as a matter of urgency. We do have interested parties looking to acquire the surface for their own projects, but we need:
Immediate storage space.
A new venue opportunity.
Investment support.
A partner site (warehouse, barn, sports hall shell, land).
Or a serious buyer who is able to move quickly.
This surface represents opportunity for someone.
Right now, it also represents risk if we cannot act quickly.
If you are:
A landowner.
A warehouse or industrial unit operator.
A council representative.
A school or college.
A community trust.
An investor.
Or someone who simply knows someone…

As part of The Bradford Park Avenue Sports Foundation’s Connecting Communities initiative at the Horsfall Stadium, activity is being delivered in a dedicated space we are branding The Inclusion Curve. This represents a deliberate shift in how such a traditional football environment can shape participation.
The Inclusion Curve has its own adjacent parking and independent entry point, meaning women can access the space directly without using Bradford Park Avenue - Official’s busy stadium entrances. For many, that distinction matters. Research consistently suggests that feeling exposed, out of place or observed can be enough to prevent women from engaging in physical activity in the first instance.
The logos are inspired by the curvy pitch we use for these Sport England funded sessions, if anyone has a favourite please say which number 🙏
When we design spaces differently, the outcomes follow.

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, and it feels like the right moment to talk about why initiatives like Reel Divas matter more than ever.
At GWL UNITED we are passionate advocates of pursuits like Futsal, Football, Multi-sports and a range of activities, both indoors and outside that promote wellbeing, confidence, and emotional resilience.
Research from Sport England consistently shows that children and young people who are active report higher levels of happiness, life satisfaction, and sense of belonging. Being active outdoors in particular has been linked to improved mood, reduced anxiety, and better emotional regulation. We appreciate that invasion games and competitive surroundings are not for everyone.
Angling is uniquely powerful in this regard.
The Angling Trust has long highlighted that fishing supports mental wellbeing through:
• Time in nature
• Calm, repetitive focus
• Reduced screen exposure
• Safe social interaction
• Building patience and emotional control
• Confidence through skill development
Research suggests fishing slows down the mind, teaches quiet confidence and creates space to breathe.
In 2025, our ambition was to launch Reel Divas across several local sites, however, prolonged dry weather and reduced water conditions limited what was safely possible. Rather than compromise delivery quality and participant safety, we focused on ticking boxes that would provide strong foundations:
âś” Engaging schools
âś” Running creative logo competitions
âś” Building partnerships near local waters
âś” Developing female-led branding
âś” Listening to what girls actually want
The feedback was pretty clear. Girls want safe spaces, they want to develop confidence without pressure, and they want activities that don’t feel intimidating.
That is exactly what Reel Divas is designed to offer.
As we move into 2026, Reel Divas will become a structured pathway supporting girls’ confidence, wellbeing, and long-term participation in outdoor sport across Kirklees, Pen*stone, Bradford and surrounding communities.
During Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re asking a simple question:
What if more girls had access to calm, confidence building outdoor spaces?
If you are:
🎣 A girl or parent interested in participating
🏫 A school wanting to collaborate
🌿 A club willing to support female pathways
🤝 A business looking to support community wellbeing
đź’— A volunteer passionate about empowering girls
📣 A partner aligned with mental health & inclusion
Please message to explore how you can be involved.
