With a vacant league fixture this weekend, we invited Nafferton YFC down to Dene Park for a friendly to keep both sets of players ticking over ahead of next weekend's U15 Bridge Cup first round games…although more on that later!
The Sharks started brightly, playing positive, attacking football from the first whistle, looking to take the game to Nafferton. The pressure eventually told when Emilis opened the scoring during an entertaining first half. Despite creating plenty of opportunities, we went into the break with a slender but deserved 1-0 lead.
We felt the game would open up further in the second half as we’d found our rhythm nicely during the first 35 minutes and began to move the ball with greater confidence. In fairness to Nafferton, we also had the benefit of being able to rotate with five substitutes available, allowing us to keep the intensity high throughout.
The Sharks certainly found their shooting boots after the restart, producing some excellent football and a number of superb finishes. Goals from Fin, Harrison B, Ollie and Henry Jacko, alongside further efforts from the team, helped secure an impressive 7-0 victory at the final whistle.
Defensively, we were strong, composed and organised throughout. Our midfield unit maintained the tempo, won the ball back quickly and consistently created opportunities in attacking areas. In front of goal, the team showed great movement and determination, resulting in a host of chances and some quality finishes 🔥
A special mention goes to Dexter in goal. He didn't have a huge amount to do, but his concentration, positioning and readiness were excellent throughout. When called upon, he was alert and dependable as always 😊
We look forward to our league games with Nafferton YFC this season, they’re a great set of lads, led by Sean and his team.
Unfortunately for us, our scheduled U15 Bridge Cup opponents informed us today that they are unable to field a team due to injuries, meaning we now face another vacant weekend. It’s been a stop/start season up to now for our Sharks.
As things stand, we return to league action on 18th October.
Until then, it's back to the training ground for a couple of sessions to keep the squad sharp, focused and ready to reignite our league campaign in the weeks ahead.
