Early football saw clubs making up their own laws, with matches often descending into complete disorder.

Itโ€™s hard to imagine, but itโ€™s all part of the gameโ€™s history.

We're delighted to share that Football Skills, published by Usborne Publishing, has been shortlisted for Children's Book of the Year: Hobbies and Interests at the 2026 The Week Junior Book Awards๐Ÿ“šโšฝ

The book features photography captured at Holmes Park and showcases players from Oadby Owls Football Club and Blaby & District Spartans Inclusive FC, who played a key role in bringing the project to life.

A huge thank you to our brilliant County Cup photographer, Alexandra Johnson Photography, whose fantastic images feature throughout the publication.

We'd also like to recognise our former Designated Safeguarding Officer, Emma Haywood. This collaboration would not have been possible without Emma's support and dedication in bringing the project together.

Written in collaboration with professional footballers, Football Skills helps young players develop key techniques through engaging, accessible and inclusive content, making the game enjoyable for everyone.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the project, and fingers crossed for the awards in September! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ†
