Elvaston Castle Country Park is a gorgeous loop through gothic castle grounds, formal gardens, woodland, a lake dotted with old tufa grottoes, and the local nature reserve.
Whether you’re after a weekend reset or a proper morning out, this delivers. Did you know parts of the Oscar-winning film Women in Love were filmed here in 1969?

• Dog-friendly throughout — can get busy, so keep on lead around the courtyard and nature reserve
