The CTO is the oldest and largest Commonwealth membership organisation in the field of ICT

CTO has been at the centre of continuous and extensive international communications development funding, co-operation and assistance programmes. Since 1985, the organisation has delivered to its recipient members in Europe, the Caribbean, Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions, over 3,500 bilateral and multilateral telecommunications and ICT capacity-building projects in the form of policy, operational and regulatory training and expert assistance.

DAYS 2 & 3 | MINISTERIAL ALLIANCE FOR DIGITAL NATIONS 🌐

The CTO’s 125th Anniversary celebrations continued in London with the Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations, bringing together Ministers, senior government officials, international organisations, industry leaders and digital experts from across the Commonwealth.
Across two days, discussions focused on some of the most important issues shaping the Commonwealth’s digital future.

🤖 AI Governance — exploring responsible AI, digital capacity, trusted frameworks and practical approaches to using AI to support public services, economic growth and inclusive development.

📡 Affordable & Meaningful Connectivity — examining ways to close the digital divide through broadband, mobile, fibre, satellite and next-generation connectivity technologies.

🤝 Partnerships for Digital Transformation — the CTO also marked its 125th anniversary with the ceremonial signing of new partnerships with organisations including ISOC, SubOptic Foundation UK, UWE, K-Labs International, Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions, ICANN and ARIN.

🔐 Digital Trust & Resilient Digital Economies — Day 3 explored cybersecurity, Internet governance, digital sovereignty, digital identity, online safety and digital public infrastructure.

The Alliance provided an important platform for policy dialogue, knowledge sharing and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of partnerships in building secure, inclusive and resilient digital economies across the Commonwealth.

As the CTO marks 125 years of connecting the Commonwealth, the Ministerial Alliance for Digital Nations looked firmly toward the future — working together to shape a more connected, trusted and inclusive digital Commonwealth.

COMMONWEALTH DIGITAL NEXUS: SHAPING THE COMMONWEALTH’S DIGITAL FUTURE

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) officially launched its 125th Anniversary activities today in London with the Commonwealth Digital Nexus — a high-level forum bringing together leaders, policymakers, industry experts and digital innovators to explore the technologies, partnerships and policies shaping the Commonwealth’s digital future.

Under the theme of innovation, inclusion and meaningful digital transformation, Day 1 opened with a powerful reflection on CTO’s 125-year legacy of connecting people, nations and communities through telecommunications and technology — while looking ahead to the opportunities emerging from AI, advanced connectivity and digital innovation.

Opening the programme, Mr. Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, Chair of the CTO Council and Chairman of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), Mauritius, welcomed delegates, followed by a keynote address from Mr. Bevil Wooding, American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) who explored the Commonwealth, Partnership, Cooperation and Innovation in this Digital age.

The day’s discussions then turned to some of the most pressing issues facing the global digital ecosystem.

The day featured powerful conversations on:

• AI at Scale — exploring responsible AI adoption, innovation, regulation and capacity building.

• Emerging Connectivity Technologies — examining AI, 5G, spectrum, Wi-Fi, meaningful connectivity and satellite communications.

• The New Digital Ecosystem — highlighting the importance of partnerships, digital public infrastructure and inclusive digital transformation.

A key message emerged throughout the day: building a stronger digital future requires collaboration across countries, sectors and communities.

As the CTO celebrates 125 years of connecting the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Digital Nexus demonstrated the importance of bringing diverse voices together to shape a digital future that is innovative, inclusive, resilient and meaningful for all.

Across the Commonwealth, that journey has grown into action: strengthening digital policy, advancing connectivity, building capacity, expanding public awareness and education, and creating partnerships that move digital development forward.

1901 was the beginning. 2026 is a milestone - not a finish line.
