BUILT FOR COLD MOUNTAIN DAYS

The Nimsdai Vertex jacket carries a serious mountaineering name, and that deserves a measured reading.

Rather than treating it as expedition mythology, the more useful question is what the jacket actually offers: responsibly sourced 800-fill hydrophobic goose down, recycled ripstop nylon fabrics, a PFAS-free DWR finish, windproof construction and a listed weight of 530g in a men’s medium.

It looks best suited to cold-weather walking, hiking, travel and climbing as part of a sensible layering system — not as a replacement for a full expedition parka or down suit where those are required.

A closer look at the redesigned Vertex jacket, from 800-fill goose down to recycled ripstop nylon and practical cold-weather details.

THE MESSI TRIBUTE EXTENDS BEYOND MATCH DAY

Argentina’s latest special edition collection gives supporters several ways to wear a tribute to Lionel Messi, from the match jersey to pre-match apparel and everyday clothing.

The shirt pairs Argentina’s familiar sky blue and white with gold detailing, a reworked Sun of May and Messi’s signature logo in place of the adidas performance mark.

adidas says Argentina will wear it for Messi’s farewell international appearance on 6 October.

Our article looks at the symbolism, the wider range and the ventilation features adidas has built into the match jersey.

YOUR TRAINING PLAN IS ALLOWED TO CHANGE

A race date gives you something to work towards. It also makes a missed session feel harder to accept.

Personal trainer Elyn Marwick advises addressing an injury early, with physiotherapy help where needed. Our running recovery guide explores that decision alongside practical advice on rest days, strength work, footwear and tapering.

Useful reading if your plan is very clear about the miles but rather vague about the time between them.

HAIR HEALTH BELONGS IN THE FITNESS PLAN

An autumn fitness challenge can change much more than your gym diary. Earlier starts, stricter meals and tightly tied hair all deserve a little thought.

Dr Abdulaziz Balwi, medical director at Elithair, explains how restrictive diets and poor sleep may contribute to shedding, while repeated tension from tight hairstyles can contribute to traction alopecia.

He also makes a specific distinction between hormone-affecting substances and creatine.

Our Winter Arc guide explains his advice without turning a fitness challenge into a hair-loss prediction.

Dr Abdulaziz Balwi explains how restrictive diets, poor sleep and tight hairstyles may affect hair, and addresses the creatine question.

BLOOD VESSELS OFFER A CLUE ABOUT BERRIES

Blueberries and grapes feature in a review of 37 studies published in Nutrients, with findings involving blood vessel function, blood pressure, inflammation and oxidative stress.

For anyone wondering what colourful fruit might contribute to heart health, that is an interesting starting point.

Understanding the findings means looking at what each study measured and remembering that fruit contains several compounds of interest.

Our article explains endothelial function in plain English and examines why a higher pigment content cannot establish greater cardiovascular protection.

ONE LATE KICK SETTLED EVERYTHING

Fiji completed a clean sweep in the WXV Global Series Challenger, but the Netherlands made them work for every inch of it.

Samoa also ended their campaign strongly with a bonus-point victory over Hong Kong China, while Spain v Brazil was cancelled after heat-related delays.

FIFTEEN CLEARS. ONE REMARKABLE WINNER.

With Schönbrunn Palace providing an extraordinary backdrop and a sold-out crowd watching, Katrin Eckermann and Chao Lee delivered the defining performance of Saturday's CSI5* 1.50m at LGCT Vienna.

Their 36.42-second jump-off secured victory ahead of Belgian riders Nathan Budd and Gudrun Patteet, who completed the podium.

For Eckermann, this was more than an impressive result. With her family watching and Chao Lee's remarkable history stretching back to her father's place, it was a particularly personal victory.

Read how the evening unfolded, including the rounds that threatened to deny the German combination their moment.

Katrin Eckermann and Chao Lee win in 36.42 seconds as 15 riders contest a dramatic jump-off beside Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace.
