MFC Yellows – Summer Cup Winners
The sun beat down on Buxton’s ground,
As family and friends all gathered around.
A Summer Cup Final lay waiting that day,
And the Yellows were ready for whatever came their way.
Across from them stood a strong Prestwich side,
Full of confidence, passion and pride.
Their last meeting had finished level before,
So everyone knew this would be hard-fought once more.
The game burst to life from the very first whistle,
With both teams competing in every midfield tussle.
Every ball was contested, every challenge was strong,
With neither side prepared to get things wrong.
The football was fast and the tempo was high,
As attacks came thick and chances flew by.
It was the sort of final every player dreams to play,
With commitment and passion on display all day.
MFC found a breakthrough to edge ahead,
Reward for the hard work the coaches had led.
But the lead was narrow as the half-time whistle blew,
And there was still plenty of work left to do.
Then something clicked as the second half began,
The Yellows stepped up and carried out the plan.
Passes found feet and attacks gathered pace,
Leaving Prestwich struggling to keep up the chase.
Louie was brilliant whenever called upon,
Making big saves to keep the team strong.
Then he turned defence into attack in a flash,
Providing an assist with a wonderful pass.
Freddie stood firm and protected the back,
Winning his tackles whenever they attacked.
Strong, composed and reading the game well,
Helping the team whenever pressure fell.
Charlie defended with intelligence and skill,
Reading the game well and working hard still.
He came so close to adding his name to the score,
On another day he’d have had one or more.
Finlay battled for every ball that came near,
Showing commitment and never showing fear.
Strong in the tackle and solid throughout,
One long-range effort nearly brought a shout.
Lennie controlled the game from midfield,
Driving the team and refusing to yield.
He caused problems all afternoon with his play,
And scored some brilliant goals along the way.
Pat worked tirelessly down one wing,
Making defenders chase and track everything.
Reggie matched him with energy, skill and desire,
Helping the Yellows push further and higher.
Gene led the attack and earned man of the match,
His movement and finishing proving hard to catch.
When chances appeared, he took them with style,
Giving the supporters plenty to smile.
But this victory belonged to more than one name,
Every lad played their part in the game.
Every tackle, every pass, every run that was made,
Showed the foundations Laura and Gav have laid.
When the final whistle echoed around the ground,
Smiles and celebrations were everywhere to be found.
The Summer Cup winners, deservedly so,
A reward for just how far this team has grown.
A season of learning, a season of fun,
New challenges faced and trophies won.
From the first training session to this final day,
The lads kept improving every step of the way.
With promotions achieved and memories made,
Their hard work was finally repaid.
As the cup was lifted beneath the summer sky,
There were smiles on faces wherever you’d look nearby.
Not just because of the silverware held tight,
But because of the journey that led to that sight.
A group of young lads, a team full of pride,
With two coaches there to guide them each stride.
And proof for all those watching on to see,
What can happen when a team becomes all it can be.
