🏉 A Quick Message to the Melksham Family 🏉
As we gear up for an exciting season ahead, Dorset & Wilts RFU have sent a gentle reminder to all local clubs about keeping the rugby spirit alive on the sidelines.

At Melksham RFC, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, supportive community. From our mini and youth squads taking their first runs to the senior XVs battling it out on Saturday and Sundays, every single one of us—players, coaches, parents, and supporters—shapes what our club stands for.

We want every matchday at the Oakfields ground to be a brilliant, positive experience for everyone involved. Unkind words or heated touchline behaviour don't just dampen the fun; they can also lead to serious league penalties, fines, and point deductions for our teams.

Let’s keep the energy positive:

🔹Cheer loud and stay proud: Get behind Melksham with encouragement, positivity, and great sportsmanship.

🔹Back the whistle: Referees and match officials give up their time so our teams can play. Even when a call doesn't go our way, let’s show them the respect they deserve.

🔹Welcome our visitors: Show visiting players, coaches, and supporters the warmest Melksham hospitality.

🔹Look out for one another: Gently speak up or step in if sideline tempers start to fray.

🔹Encourage the next generation: Many of our match officials are young or just starting out—they need our cheers, patience, and support.

🏉 HUGE SATURDAY OF RUGBY AT OAKFIELDS! 🏉

After the confusion surrounding last week’s fixture, we are back on home turf this Saturday, 19th September, for a massive afternoon both on the pitch and on the screens!

First up, we host Pewsey Vale in our final pre-season run-out before the league campaign kicks off. With Melksham fielding a club side, it's the perfect chance to get down to the touchline, catch some rugby, and see who's playing as the lads make their final push for selection.

The clubhouse doors open at 1:00 PM, with kick-off out on the pitch at 2:15 PM.

The action doesn't stop there. Inside the clubhouse, we'll also have the big screen on for international rugby as the Red Roses take on Canada Women (KO 3:00 PM, live on BBC iPlayer)!

Grab a drink from the bar, support the boys out on the pitch, and also stick around for a brilliant game of womens rugby with us! 🍻

Huge Saturday of rugby incoming at Oakfields! 🏉🍻

Please note a fixture change for this weekend: A Melksham side will now take on Westbury at home, with kick-off at 13:30.

Once the final whistle blows on the pitch, head straight into the clubhouse for another gripping instalment of the Springboks vs the All Blacks, kicking off live on the screens at 16:10. Let’s see if this clash will eclipse the controversy of that low-altitude flyover during the anthems last time out! ✈️

The clubhouse opens at 12:00 pm, fully stocked and ready to pour cold pints all afternoon. Get down early, support the team, and settle in for a massive day of local and international rugby.

A Message from the Chairman & President

It has taken a little time to process just how special yesterday was.

Seeing old friends reunite, new connections form, and multiple generations of families enjoying themselves on and off the pitch was truly priceless. As a club, seeing everyone come together in such high spirits meant everything.

To every single person who played, attended, or volunteered their time to make the day run smoothly: thank you. Words struggle to capture just how much your support and dedication mean to our club family.

Above all, we gathered to honour and celebrate the memory of a great friend and teammate, Phil Stone. Phil cared deeply for everyone around him, and there is no doubt he would have been proud watching us play the game he loved with such warmth, passion, and true comradeship.

Discussions are already underway to make this a regular annual gathering so we can keep this tradition alive. In the meantime, let’s not wait for the next big day to connect. Reach out, stay in touch, and continue to look after one another.

You never know who you’ll run into on holiday! ☀️🏉

A few of the lads bumped into Daniel O’Reilly (aka ). While many know him for his stand-up comedy and social media viral clips, Daniel is also a huge advocate for men’s mental health, open conversation, and recovery—using his platform and "Menace II Sobriety" podcast to encourage men to speak up and support each other. 🧠🗣️

He was good enough to send a quick message of support ahead of a very special day for our club community: the Phil Stone Memorial Game.

At a grassroots club like Melksham, rugby is about far more than 80 minutes on the pitch—it’s about family, and looking out for one another. This Saturday is all about coming together, celebrating Phil’s legacy, and checking in on your mates.

Join us on Saturday 15th August as we come together at the club to honour and remember a true friend, teammate, and one of our very own, Phil Stone.

The club will be open from 12 noon, with kick-off scheduled for 2.30pm.

While the current state of the pitch means we are still finalising the exact format of the rugby on the day, the most important pieces of the puzzle are completely locked in. The referees are sorted, the teams are ready to go, and the spirit of the club is stronger than ever. No matter what the final run-out looks like on the grass, we are going to celebrate Phil the best way we know how—through rugby and community.

This is a day for the entire Melksham Rugby Club family, past and present. We need all of you to come down, pack the sidelines, and fill the clubhouse with the stories, laughter, and memories that made Phil such a massive part of our lives.

We are also incredibly proud to have Man Down UK on-site with us throughout the day. They are a fantastic non-profit community interest company providing free, confidential, peer-led talking groups for men experiencing mental health challenges. Having them here is a powerful reminder of how vital it is to look out for one another, both on and off the pitch.

🚨 SAFETY ADVISORY: SMOKING & OPEN FLAMES BANNED AT OAKFIELDS 🚨
Due to the recent dry conditions, the grass pitches and surrounding areas at the Oakfields site are currently extremely dry and pose a severe fire hazard.

To keep everyone safe and protect our facilities, all smoking, va**ng, e-ci******es, and open flames are strictly prohibited across the entire site until further notice.

(While we know vapes don't carry an open flame, the strict blanket ban on all smoking and va**ng devices makes enforcement simple and eliminates any risk from hot components or damaged lithium batteries near tinder-dry grass.)

How You Can Help Us Keep Oakfields Safe:
🚫 No Smoking/Vaping: Please leave ci******es, vapes, and lighters tucked away or in your vehicle.

🗑️ Dispose of Waste Safely: Glass bottles and litter can amplify heat or ignite dry grass—please use the bins provided.

👁️ Stay Alert: If you spot smoke or an active fire, report it to site staff or call emergency services immediately.

Safety First: It takes just a single spark to start a grassland fire. We appreciate your full cooperation in keeping our players, spectators, and grounds safe!

🏉 What a day at the Trowbridge T10s Women’s Tournament yesterday! 🏉

We are incredibly proud of our amazing womens' team, who braved the blistering heat and a tough, hard pitch to make it all the way to the Final! 🏆

While it wasn’t quite our day—falling just short to a highly skilled and fantastic Yeovil side in the final—we couldn't be prouder of the resilience, work rate, and heart our squad displayed from the start of the day till the very end. Huge congratulations to Yeovil on their win! Well deserved 👏

Win or lose, the best part of the day was seeing the incredible camaraderie, nonstop fun, and brilliant rugby skills on display from all the teams involved. Women's rugby is in fantastic shape! 🙌
