Please Help Us Buy a Seated Surfboard – Because Everyone Deserves the Chance to Ride a Wave
Hello, my name is Aiden.
Imagine standing on a beach, watching everyone else experience the freedom, excitement, and confidence that comes from catching a wave—knowing you can’t join them because the right equipment simply isn’t available.
I’m determined to change that.
Aloha Kākou Shaka is an inclusive surf club created by and for neurodivergent people, including those like me who also have a learning disability.
I founded the club after achieving a world first for someone with my level of need to become a qualified surf coach and RNLI lifeguard.
My mission is simple: to make the ocean a place where everyone belongs.
Over the past 2 season we’ve seen lives transformed. Young people who were too anxious to enter the water have gone on to ride their first waves.
Families have found a welcoming community. Confidence has grown, friendships have formed, and people who have often felt excluded have discovered a place where they are celebrated.
Now we’re ready to make our sessions even more inclusive.
We’re raising funds to purchase a seated adaptive surfboard, allowing neurodivergent people or those with a learning disability, who also have significant physical disabilities and complex mobility needs to experience the joy and freedom of surfing alongside everyone else. This specialist equipment will open the ocean to people who may never have believed surfing was possible.
This isn’t just about buying a surfboard.
It’s about creating opportunities.
It’s about independence.
It’s about breaking down barriers.
It’s about ensuring that no one is left on the beach simply because the right equipment isn’t available.
Every donation, no matter the size, will bring us closer to making surfing accessible for even more people.
We’ve kindly been awarded a grant towards the cost but we still need more funds to be able to buy the board, seat and safety equipment.
Your support will help us create unforgettable experiences, build confidence, improve wellbeing, and prove that the sea really can be for everyone.

What an absolute legend Jack is! Jack came to surf with us for the first time this summer and his progress in just 4 sessions was extraordinary. Across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, more than one in five people (21.2%) are living with a disability that limits their day-to-day activities. This is significantly higher than the national average of 17.3%. (Source: CCF’s Vital Signs 2025)
That's over 120,000 people facing barriers that can affect their independence, wellbeing and ability to access opportunities.
For many, those challenges are made even greater by isolation, financial hardship and limited access to support.
At CCF, we are proud to support charities and community groups that are improving the lives of disabled people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Our funding helps these organisations provide accessible activities, specialist equipment, therapeutic support, inclusive opportunities, transport, advice and advocacy, helping people to build confidence, reduce isolation and live more independent lives.
These grassroots organisations understand the unique needs of their communities and are often best placed to deliver practical, person-centred support where it is needed most.

A heartwarming review
This is exactly what Aiden and I set up inclusive surf club for!
Something as a parent to a neurodivergent child, specifically PDA, I know all to well!
People often use the ‘inclusion’ word believing they are inclusive, but until you have a child that doesn’t even fit into the inclusive provisions it’s hard to appreciate how non inclusive some actually are.
We don’t claim to always get it right. We are still learning. But we truly hope we are aspiring to get it right for those that feel so excluded from so many places.
It was so lovely to receive this review - feed back, good or constructive is always welcome so we can improve. But this one was a lovely read for the whole team.

We were welcomed whilst Finn was vocal stimming and nobody batted an eyelid, he needed my husband in the water and it was completely accepted, his volunteer, Jasmine, stopped to play in the sand with him when he wanted too.
The whole session felt so emotional and to see him so happy and accepted was really beautiful.
You guys totally get it. Finn was at risk of permanent exclusion from school, he didn't tick their boxes, was put on a reduced timetable & we felt backed in to a corner to remove him but seeing him today on his very first surf lesson, something he's been desperate to do but was something that was not manageable in typical classes, was just incredible and a feeling I'll hold on to for a long time.
He said he felt proud of himself.
