🚨 Train to Become a Pool Lifeguard! 🚨

Ready for a rewarding qualification that could lead to employment in leisure centres, hotels and pools across the UK and Ireland?

🏊 RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
📅 Starts Tuesday 21st July
⏳ 6-week course

Course Schedule
💻 Theory: Tuesdays, 9:00am–2:00pm (live online via Zoom)
🏊 Water Sessions: Tuesdays, 5:45pm–6:45pm at Newry Leisure Centre

The NPLQ is the UK’s most recognised lifeguard qualification and is ideal for anyone looking to:
✅ Become a qualified pool lifeguard
✅ Gain valuable lifesaving and first aid skills
✅ Boost their CV and employment opportunities
✅ Build confidence and leadership skills

Prerequisites
✔️ You must be 16 years old by the date of assessment.
✔️ You must be able to:

* Swim 50m in under 60 seconds
* Swim 100m continuously on your front and back
* Tread water for 30 seconds
* Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool and recover an object

‼️Curran lifesaving school will be closed for the bank holiday‼️

No water smart or lifesaving classes on during this time.

Classes resume Friday 17th July🏊‍♀️🏊

Congratulations to the three members of staff from the Canal Court Hotel & Spa and to our instructor Grainne on achieving their qualification. The hard work, dedication and commitment shown throughout the course has paid off, and you should all be incredibly proud of your achievement.

It was a pleasure to work with such a positive and enthusiastic group over the duration of the course. We wish you all the very best as you put your new skills into practice and continue your lifeguarding journey.

Dearbhala has been part of Curran Lifesaving School since she was just 10 years old, progressing through our programmes from Rookie Lifeguard all the way to becoming one of our fantastic teachers 🌊👏

Over the years we’ve watched her grow into such a confident, caring and hardworking young person who is brilliant with all of our young lifesavers. She is a fantastic role model to so many children in our classes and we are so proud of everything she has achieved ❤️

Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and positivity over the years. We hope you have the best 18th birthday — you deserve it! 🎂✨

☀️🌊 WATER SAFETY REMINDER 🌊☀️
Before you dive into summer adventures, remember: safety in the water saves lives. Whether you’re paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, or heading to the beach — preparation matters.

💧 PREPARE
✔️ Check water temperatures
✔️ Wear appropriate clothing
✔️ Always use a buoyancy aid/life jacket
✔️ Keep your phone in a waterproof pouch

🛟 RESPOND
If you unexpectedly fall into cold water:
➡️ Don’t panic
➡️ Float on your back
➡️ Focus on controlling your breathing
➡️ Stay calm until you can recover safely

🔥 RECOVER
✔️ Get out of the water safely
✔️ Change into warm, dry clothes
✔️ Warm up gradually
✔️ Seek medical attention if needed

Always remember ‘Float to live’

We are absolutely delighted to officially launch our new partnership with Down Right Brilliant🌈

Starting tomorrow, Curran Lifesaving School will be delivering our Watersmart classes to members of Down Right Brilliant as we continue to expand our inclusive water safety programme 🏊‍♂️✨

These classes are designed to build confidence, promote water safety and create a fun, supportive environment for everyone involved.

We can’t wait to get started and are so excited for what’s ahead 💙

Just a quick update on classes over the Easter period:

• No Sunday classes on 5th & 12th April
• Sunday classes return on 19th April
• Friday classes will return on 10th April

We’re delighted to be introducing our WaterSmart Additional Needs sessions.

These sessions are designed with small groups and a calm, encouraging environment to help children build:
🌊 Water confidence
🛟 Basic safety skills
🎈 Enjoyment in the water
💪 Independence

📍 Newry Leisure Centre
🗓 Friday nights – 7:00pm or 7:30pm
⏱ 30-minute sessions

Whether your child is just starting out or needs a more tailored approach, this is a lovely way to build confidence at their own pace 💙
