π» Theory: Tuesdays, 9:00amβ2:00pm (live online via Zoom)
π Water Sessions: Tuesdays, 5:45pmβ6:45pm at Newry Leisure Centre
The NPLQ is the UKβs most recognised lifeguard qualification and is ideal for anyone looking to:

Become a qualified pool lifeguard

Gain valuable lifesaving and first aid skills

Build confidence and leadership skills
Prerequisites
βοΈ You must be 16 years old by the date of assessment.
βοΈ You must be able to:
* Swim 50m in under 60 seconds
* Swim 100m continuously on your front and back
* Tread water for 30 seconds
* Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool and recover an object

A massive well done to everyone who successfully passed their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) assessment today! πββοΈπ
Congratulations to the three members of staff from the Canal Court Hotel & Spa and to our instructor Grainne on achieving their qualification. The hard work, dedication and commitment shown throughout the course has paid off, and you should all be incredibly proud of your achievement.
It was a pleasure to work with such a positive and enthusiastic group over the duration of the course. We wish you all the very best as you put your new skills into practice and continue your lifeguarding journey.

Dearbhala has been part of Curran Lifesaving School since she was just 10 years old, progressing through our programmes from Rookie Lifeguard all the way to becoming one of our fantastic teachers ππ
Over the years weβve watched her grow into such a confident, caring and hardworking young person who is brilliant with all of our young lifesavers. She is a fantastic role model to so many children in our classes and we are so proud of everything she has achieved β€οΈ

βοΈπ WATER SAFETY REMINDER πβοΈ
Before you dive into summer adventures, remember: safety in the water saves lives. Whether youβre paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, or heading to the beach β preparation matters.
π§ PREPARE
βοΈ Check water temperatures
βοΈ Wear appropriate clothing
βοΈ Always use a buoyancy aid/life jacket
βοΈ Keep your phone in a waterproof pouch
π RESPOND
If you unexpectedly fall into cold water:
β‘οΈ Donβt panic
β‘οΈ Float on your back
β‘οΈ Focus on controlling your breathing
β‘οΈ Stay calm until you can recover safely
π₯ RECOVER
βοΈ Get out of the water safely
βοΈ Change into warm, dry clothes
βοΈ Warm up gradually
βοΈ Seek medical attention if needed

Starting tomorrow, Curran Lifesaving School will be delivering our Watersmart classes to members of Down Right Brilliant as we continue to expand our inclusive water safety programme πββοΈβ¨
These classes are designed to build confidence, promote water safety and create a fun, supportive environment for everyone involved.

Weβre delighted to be introducing our WaterSmart Additional Needs sessions.
These sessions are designed with small groups and a calm, encouraging environment to help children build:
π Water confidence
π Basic safety skills
π Enjoyment in the water

π Newry Leisure Centre
π Friday nights β 7:00pm or 7:30pm
β± 30-minute sessions
Whether your child is just starting out or needs a more tailored approach, this is a lovely way to build confidence at their own pace π
