Over the last few months at St Crispins Retirement Village we’ve been really focusing on exercises that help to make everyday life easier.
Strength work to keep the upper/lower body strong so you can lift things, move things or support your own weight.
Balance, mobility and coordination all help towards avoiding trips and falls.
Today we used resistance bands in pairs and focused a bit on grip strength, luckily everyone did great and no one got catapulted by a band 😂
The aim isn’t always about looking strong it’s about being strong so you can carry your shopping, reach things up high, pick things up from the floor and be independent as you age. However we still had time to have a bit of fun and show off the mobility everyone has gained with a bit of YMCA 🎶 functional after all starts with “fun” 🥰

A perfect evening for an outdoor workout tonight. Working our way around the park with fab efforts from everyone in the group working at their own abilities. A mid week workout achieved 👏🏻

Hi all - We’re thinking about launching a 6-week beginners running programme for people who:
✅ Have never run before
✅ Haven’t run in years
✅ Feel too unfit or nervous to join a run club
The idea would be to help complete beginners build confidence and become comfortable jogging with others.
** Nothing is planned yet ** - I’m simply seeing if there’s enough interest **

Exercising is good for you - it’s even been confirmed on the news! 😂
It’s no surprise to any of us - we know it, you know it but after 30yrs of research it’s finally been confirmed!
The British Journal of Sports Medicine suggested this week that 90–120 minutes of weekly strength training is the optimal amount to reduce the risk of premature death, heart disease, and neurological conditions. Combining this amount of resistance training with aerobic exercise can further reduce mortality risk by up to 58%.
Surprisingly, every GFT session has a mixture of aerobic exercise and resistance training so if you can attend 2-3 sessions a week, you’re in an excellent place to improve your long-term health.

Well it was a bit wet and thundery as we started but we ended with a rainbow! 🌈
Moving around the field in solos and pairs we ticked off all the muscle groups and got some great steps in.

We ended today's senior class with a small group exercise 😁
You can hear from the laughter how much fun they had but the was also a bit of competitiveness going on too!
A great end to a class where we focused on some mobility and gently strength work.

Just as we headed out to the park this evening, the heaven’s opened! 💦 it was still very humid so felt quite refreshing and it certainly didn’t put this colourful team off!
Simple forward jumps and shuffles back proved pretty tough, plenty of work on the legs and some great partner work to finish with. Well done all for braving the rain tonight👏🏻
