Part Time Groom Job Vacancy

Due to business expansion, we are now looking for a reliable person to help look after a variety of horses, from hunters to happy hackers and carry out all the general yard duties at our picturesque yard in Northamptonshire.

Experience:
• Must be confident handling a variety of horses, including big horses & challenging horses
• Experience with farm equipment would be preferable but not essential
• Clipping, mane pulling to a high standard (please provide photos of your work)

Skillset:
The successful candidate will be;
• Calm, warm character
• Able to deal with challenging horses/behavioural issues kindly but efficiently
• Comfortable being in with small herds of horses
• Have a proactive attitude
• Have a “horse first” approach with natural ethics
• Hard working
• Efficient with the ability to identify efficiency improvements
• Able to follow instructions
• Able to use their own initiative when required
• Have full UK driving license and own vehicle
• Not stood on their phone all day
• Basic wound management – essential

Duties would include:
• Day to day care such as bringing in/mucking out/ turning out / changing rugs/ poo picking/haynets
• A quad with trailer and tractor are available to use with experience and training.
• Assist with preparing the horses on hunting mornings
• Riding possible but not essential.
• Responsibility for daily health checks
• Sole management of yard required at times

I am so pleased to see how many people are learning to embrace the more natural lifestyle and move away from excessive stabling and starvation to manage weight issues, laminitis, EMS, cushings etc... Horses are herd animals, and feel safer and more secure when amongst other equines. We are very lucky to have a resident gelding in the Track/EquiCentral herd who is owned by the yard, so I can ensure that even if every other owner turns up and wants to ride or do something with their horse, I can ensure that there will always be at least one member of the herd for company.

EquiCentral / Track Livery
Applications now open for spaces on our Track / EquiCentral segment of the yard.
Based in Northamptonshire we are a hybrid yard, offering a more natural alternative to the traditional stabled livery and Track/EquiCentral Livery all in one place, allowing us to cater appropriately for different types of horses.
We are looking for one or two mare(s) or gelding(s) to join the existing small herd on a part or full livery basis.
The Track/EquiCentral system comprises:
• A large open barn used for feeding, shelter, grooming etc...
• A single loose box for use when required
• A hard and soft outdoor surfaced area the horses’ have free access to
• Ability to have a completely mud free area for winter
• A grass track system with enrichment areas and forage feeding stations
• Ad lib meadow grass hay fed all year around
• Controlled grass making the track system ideal for Laminitic, Cushings, EMS, arthritic horses.
• Hedgerows for browsing
• Barefoot only – we can help with transitions
• Small mixed herd, mares and geldings of mixed ages
• Regular visits from two Equine Podiatrists.
• Regular worm counts
• Regular poo picking
• Daily feeds
• Toilet and kitchen facilities
• Direct off-road hacking
• 26x46m floodlit arena
• Lunge Pen
• Grass hacking tracks
• Grass schooling area
• Hot horse shower
