🔴🟡 WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🟡🔴

Another action-packed weekend for the Spartans! From dramatic cup action to absolute screamers on the road, here is how all five of our teams got on across Saturday and Sunday.

⚽ 1st Team | League Cup

Athletic Sparta 2–3 Old Aylestone
A rollercoaster of a cup tie at home against higher league opposition. For 65 minutes, the Spartans were firmly in control, opening up a deserved 2–0 lead through a brilliant brace from 17. Iccy assisted by 15. Obie and 4. Jan.
As the game entered the final stretch, tempo turned chaotic and physical with officials losing control of the game. A controversial red card after appealing a decision followed by numerous, dubious offside calls proved to be the difference as the visitors scored two sloppy goals either side of a top drawer strike to sn**ch a 3–2 win. 4. Jan was magnificent throughout yet again, earning MOTM.

⚽ Veterans | Away Day

Enderby Social 4–2 Athletic Sparta Vets
Our Veterans put in a spirited performance on the road at Enderby Social. Light on attacking depth, the lads knew they would need to make every chance count.
11. Theo was in sublime form once again, bagging a fantastic brace, but the home side managed to pull away with four goals of their own. 11. Theo collected a well earned MOTM award for his standout display!

⚽ Sparta Women | Away Match

Tamworth U21s 6–1 Athletic Sparta Women
It was a tough test on the road for our Women’s side against a very well drilled Tamworth outfit. The game started in breathtaking fashion when 17. Lily scored an early Goal of the Season contender with an extraordinary strike from the halfway line!
Despite going into half time 3–1 down, second-half injuries stretched our squad to the bare 11, allowing the hosts to capitalise with fresh legs and finish 6–1. 21. Jordann took home POTM after a phenomenal shift on her club debut!

Junior Spartans in Action

⚽️ Under 8s: A massive shoutout to our U8s, who played their very first home fixture at Bermuda this weekend! The team continues to improve week on week and made everyone proud. 29. George earned POTW after an absolute masterclass in defence!

⚽️ Under 7s: Huge congratulations to our U7s, who put on a brilliant attacking display against Coventry Phoenix, firing in 7 goals! Having to open their season with three consecutive away games is never easy, but the young Spartans have taken it in their stride.

Goals came from 69. Rafal, 11. Theo, and 15. Oleg. 11. Theo also picked up MOTM after a standout performance on his debut!
