Martial arts of the mind!
Here we explore the Just World Fallacy.
Sadly, bad things happen to good people, and vice versa. It is important to right those wrongs, rather than just expect that this is how the world must be.
Kung Fu Academy
Traditional training with modern applications. Covid 19 Update! We have started offering classes in person on Mondays in the South Oxford Community Centre.
We offer Kung Fu class as they have been taught for the past hundred years, adapted to modern living. Whether you want to learn self-defense, become more flexible and healthy, or just want to excercise and meet interesting people, there is something here for you at our academy. Please note that Monday class takes place at a different location: the South Oxford Community Centre in Lake Street.

Today we discuss lovebombing, and how to defend against it.
A simple reminder that people trying to humble you are only doing that because they think so highly of you. They feel bad about themselves and are trying to elevate their self-esteem by knocking you down.
When you start achieving things, that is when people will start this. They will come out of the woodwork, telling you they are "concerned. I just don’t want you to get too full of yourself".
They want to be the jester to your king, truth telling without accountability or repurcussions. Keeping it real, telling it how it is. Know your place. Stay small. Stay low.
This can hurt, but it really shouldn't. They wouldn't be doing this if they didn't admire you. Take it as the compliment that it is, and respond with kindness. Nothing will upset them more.
Show them that they aren't qualified to be your jester.

Martial arts for the mind, today we explore the Sunk Cost Fallacy.
When you invest time, effort and money into a style, then learn it isn't as effective as you would like, or you do not share the values of the organisation, don't keep throwing time, money and effort into the style or organisation. Simply move on.
Happy Pride month, everyone! I know times are scary out there right now, but it is important to keep showing up and keep showing the world that we care about these hard wok values.
And if you think it isn't appropriate for a martial arts school to talk about pride month, I suspect my classes or my account is not for you.

Martial arts of the mind!
Logical fallacy of the day, appeal to authority.
This one kinda got away from me, as I got distracted by an old pet peeve of mine.
The Appeal to Authority is more accurately described as someone repeating something someone in a position of authority said without examining the substance of what they said. It is a form of dogma, trying to shut down debate and thought. Don't fall for it. Prod. Poke. Learn

Martial arts for your mind!
Today, it is the Appeal to Antiquity. The oldest things aren't always the best. Knowledge builds on everything that comes before it. Things can be seminal, but not the best.
Tutorial on Warrior Walks on Clouds, a version of tai chi walking that opens the hips, ankles and knees and exercises the legs whilst teaching load bearing and balance.
