Scone Thistle Blacks 2011’s, Stormont Road, Perth (2026)

Yesterday the lads were down at Riverside for their first round Scottish Cup game.

The lads didn't have the best start going 1 nil down early on with a GK clearance rebounding off the opposition and looping over and into the goal. It didn't take them long to get back into the game with a lob from Leo, 1 all.

Disaster struck as we went down to 10 men after 15 minutes. A reflex save from a defender denying a goalscoring opportunity 🤦 Credit to Evan who made the penalty save but couldn't stop the rebound. Scone 1 Jeanfield 2. The lads knew from here on in they were going to be up against it.

They suffered a period of pressure whilst they got used to being a man down but got back to playing their game before the first half was over, drawing level just before the break.

HT 2-2

The lads came out strong in the second half and really took the game to the opposition, scoring 2 inside the first 10 minutes to make it Scone 4 Jeanfield 2. Jeanfield came back with a quick counter attack goal 20 minutes from time and for the last 10 minutes put us under some sustained pressure with fatigue kicking in after playing most of the game a player down. Huge credit to the lads though as they battled hard and saw the game out

FT Scone 4 - 3 Jeanfield

Goals - Leo (hat trick), Kyle
Assists - Alex, Kyle, Aaron

POTM - Once again, Kyle! There's absolutely no stopping this lad at the moment. His attitude, energy and desire are top class, translating to truly great performances. This rubs off on everyone around him and lifts the whole team. Keep it up!

William - Stepped it up when called upon to go into the back line. Had a great attitude, did what was required for the team and did it really well. Strong, calm and confident.

Well done both 👏

Good luck to all the lads away on their Duke of Edinburgh this weekend coming 🥾 ⛺

Today the lads kicked off cup competion vs Jeanfield.

We started the game well, had some good chances we didn't capitalise on but the lads looked in control. We rued those missed chances as Jeanfield netted the first goal of the game. It felt against the run of play but you have to take your chances to win games. The lads got the rewards for their efforts scoring from a corner and a great midfield through ball.

HT Scone 2-1 Jeanfield

Second half the lads really kicked on, they were winning their duels and playing some fantastic team football. The defence was solid, midfield were linking play and and finding those dangerous forward passes. The lads up front were really enjoying the chances they were getting infront of goal. They netted a further 3 goals in the second half to see the game out

FT Scone 5-1 Jeanfield

Goals from William, Oliver, Kyle, Leo and Aaron

Assists from Kyle and Taylor

POTM today, the team voted almost unanomously for Kyle and why not, 1 goal and 3 assists. An all round performance from him today - tackles, passes, his vision and decision making was top class.

Coaches choice was Leo, his footwork in tight areas, dangerous attempts on goal, crosses and challenges from the front made him a constant threat.

It's been a busy week or so for the lads with 2 league cup games and our first league game of the season.

With difficult games against tier 1 opposition in the league cup games, we didn't come away with any points. The lads quickly moved on and turned their focus to the first league game on Thursday just gone.

First half was full of opportunities and we scored the first of the game. The ball from Evan put Kyle in on goal and he finished confidently into the corner. We could have scored a couple more had we taken our chances.

Second half we asked the lads to be more careful with the ball and think about shooting earlier rather than waiting for the perfect opening. This was well received and we scored another 2 goals in the half, Oliver with 1 and Kyle his second of the game. The opposition goalie pulled off a couple of cracking saves to deny some fantastic goals along the way. No clean sheet this week as our opponents got an early goal in the 2nd half.

A great start to the league with a 3-1 win.

Goals - Oliver and Kyle
Assists - Evan and Leo

POTM - Kyle, has had a fantastic start with the team and today showed grit, determination, composure and quality in the middle of the pitch. A fantastic all round game capped off with a couple of top goals

The lads were in league cup action the last 2 Sundays. First away in Monifieth where the lads put on a great 1st half performance coming in with a deserved 1 nil at the break with a goal from Conor.

Second half our own mistakes cost us goals and a with full time score of Scone 1 Monifieth 4, it made this look like a comfortable game on paper. We walked away very dissapointed after playing really well for 90% of the game. But that's football.

MOTM - Kyle, he was covering ground, breaking up and linking up play. A real all round performance in midfield.

This Sunday past we welcomed Kirrie along to a home game and the lads treated us to some fine football and quality goals. We controlled the pace of the game and we're a constant threat going in 3 nil up at half time.

Second half was much of the same, some positional changes but the same level of football being played. We scored another 4 this half but 2 were chalked off for offside, Kirrie also got themselves a goal back but at FT Scone 5 Kirrie 1

POTM - Harry, with a solid performance in the back line making tackles, blocks, driving runs, quick throw ins and an abundance of energy. I could go on and on. A top performance!

Not long to wait for the next write up as we head to Dundee for another league cup game tomorrow evening

Today the lads headed to Kinross for a cup competition.

All 15 lads who made the trip got plenty of game time and played they're part in what was a very long and tiring day, playing 5 games in total after a long summer break.

I'm very pleased to report that the lads went all the way to the final this year, conceding only 1 goal the whole tournament before coming away as tournament winners in a 1 - nil final🎉 🔴⚫ 🏆 ⚫ 🔴 🎉

A huge congratulations to all the lads as they worked so hard to get their hands on the trophy. They thoroughly deserved it today with a lot of good team goals, solid defencive work and clean sheets.

Special mention for Josh, the coaches player of the tournament today 👏 well done on some great defencive moments and a cracking goal!

Congratulations to the most improved player - Evan

Congratulations for the goal of the season scored by Archie.

Overall, there was plenty for the lads to be proud of this season and whilst everyone is grateful of the break, we are already buzzing for next season. Enjoy the rest lads, we'll soon be back at it!

Final match report of the season!

Actually 3 match reports as we need a wee catch up.

We played Arbroath a week ago, we came out on top, 4-3 winners. Given the chances we had, we were dissapointed not to score more.

Goals from William, Leo, Harvey, Benjamin
Assists from Jake, Harvey
POTM - William

On Tuesday we headed out to play Dundee Sporting, a game we're we rued our missed chances, the post and crossbar were not on our side. We were dissapointed to walk away losing 3-1 when the lads played so well.

Goal - William
Assist - Harvey
POTM - Eryk, Benjamin, Stephen (yes 3, could have been 6!)

Finally, our last game of the season vs Drybrugh. And this game really summed up our season. Balls not breaking for us, deflections always seemed against us, the frame of the goal being a 12th man. People say luck isn't real, in our case, we never see any of it so maybe they're right! We probably should have been close to scoring double digits today and from a 3-1 lead looking comfortable, we found ourselves losing the game 5-3! Not burying our chances gave our opponents the chance to get back at us. Despite the scoreline, the lads were good today, it's a shame not to finish on a win, but that's football.

Goals - Jake, Harvey, Aaron
Assists - Oliver, William
POTM - Jake

And with that, the games are done! It's been a long season and the lads have kept us entertained throughout. Some great performances, goals and saves to reflect on. Just the presentation night to come before the curtain drops on another season.

Thanks to our sponsors and parents for ensuring the lads had a team and equipment week in week out. I'm sure your all ready for the break too!

The week of comebacks! We've had a busy midweek with a game on Tuesday and a game on Thursday this week.

On Tuesday we were away playing Douglas Youth, a very physical game with both teams leaving everything on the pitch.

We found ourselves behind after 12 minutes, not the start we had hoped for. However 15 minutes later, Eryk had the ball fall into his space outside the box and he slotted the ball away from 20 yards. To make it 1-1. Before the half was out our opponents netted again to make it Douglas 2 Scone 1 at HT

Second half the lads came out with a real purpose about their play, 15 minutes in Harvey netted from a corner 2-2. This was followed shortly after with a Harvey assist for Aaron inside the box. Scone now 3-2 up. Momentum stayed with us and Harvey bagged another 2 goals. Our opponents did find another goal 30 seconds from time and the game ended Douglas 3 - 5 Scone. A great second half comeback.

POTM - Aaron
Goals - Eryk, Harvey & Aaron
Assists - Oliver & Harvey

Thursday night we were away to Jeanfield, when we met earlier this season we played out a 1 - 1 draw.

This game was a real end to end game of football with both teams going for the win. The first half was a great contest, both sides creating chances and but for some great saves and squandered chances it was set to end nil nil. However a penalty was rightly awarded for a foul on the Jeanfield player in the box. They slotted it away and it was 1 nil Jeanfield at HT. A harsh end to the half.

2nd half ran the same course with both teams contributing to a highly competitive game, 15 minutes in we finally got ourselves on the scoresheet. A deserved goal for the efforts so far, William assisting Oliver. 1-1. 15 minutes later Jeanfield got themselves a 2nd to retake the lead. The Scone players never gave up, never looked out of the game and were creating plenty of chances. As the 80th minute drew in it looked like we were going to walk away with nothing for our efforts which would have been harsh. However, as with the first half, there was another goal just minutes from the end of the game, this time Leo assisting Aaron on his first game back. Players, coaches and supporters all celebrated what was a deserved goal to tie the game. FT Jeanfield 2 - 2 Scone. Both teams absolutely deserved something out of the game but either could have taken the win. A great game for the neutral.

POTM - William
Assists - William & Leo
Goals - Oliver & Aaron

Today we headed back to Blairgowrie in the cup. Our meeting 2 weeks ago led to a 4-4 draw.

Unfortunately today we weren't at the races, too far off our men, overplaying at times and the lads were far too respectful. At times not being brave enough to just go and make a tackle. This suited our opponents as we weren't closing them down and allowed them to play through to their strikers all day, as a result we lost 7-1.

At times we did play football from back to front and we did have chances to score possibly 4 or 5 today. However, even if we had finished our chances, there was too much that went wrong on the pitch today to win.

Goal today scored by Aaron

On Sunday we were at home to Arbroath Youth Blues, it's been a long time since the first game of the season!

We started this game at 100mph, 1 nil up within 30 seconds. We didn't let up there, tackling the opposition straight off the resulting centre kick we made it 2 nil within moments. An amazing start from the team, we thought we were in for a storming performance! For the remainder of the half we defended reasonably well, limited our opponents time on the ball and attempts on goal. We offered good spells of attacking play and went in at the break 3 nil up.

HT Scone 3 - 0 AYB

Second half didn't have quite as much pace about it from our point of view. We didn't play badly but we weren't sparkling either. We still created decent chances and scored another 2 goals, but conceded a couple of goals ourselves.

FT Scone 5 - 2 AYB

Overall it wasn't a bad team performance, they went through the motions and got the win. We said to the lads after they were all 6 or 7 out of 10 which led to a decent level performance (which we're all happy with) but we missed a bit of something special from any individuals. Nice to get the win and we go again on Thursday
