Royston Golf Club

Dear Members,

We are delighted to announce that Royston Golf Club will be hosting a free Get Girls into Golf event on Tuesday 1st September, from 10am to 2pm.

This fun and welcoming day is open to girls aged 9 to 14, with no previous golf experience or equipment needed. The session will include putting, chipping, games and basic swing practice in the nets, with lunch included.

Our junior section has grown over the past year, which is fantastic to see, although it is currently made up mainly of boys. We would love to encourage more girls to try golf and help strengthen the junior section going forward.

The event will be run by PGA Club Professional Mike Clemons, supported by volunteers from our junior and ladies sections. Places are limited, and we are hoping to welcome up to 20 girls, so we would like to give members the first opportunity to sign up children, grandchildren or any girls they know who may be interested in the event, lessons or a junior membership (included with any full annual membership).

Saturday Swindle 8th Aug
There were some good scores in on the Swindle (could all change when we stop getting the run of the ball!!’
Winner with 42pts was Peter Dean. Pete had 9 pars and 2 birdies.
Runner up on countback from Scott Ballentine was Mick Joyner with another good score of 40pts. 43 entered this weeks swindle.

The Buckerfield Trophy

Sunday 9th August

In 2007 the Ladies Centenary year, Joan Buckerfield was Lady Captain. We had a week of competitions and events to celebrate and one of them was a memorabilia afternoon with a strawberry tea.

This was attended and enjoyed by lady members and past members and was a great success.

Lady Captain Joan bought a beautiful glass trophy to be presented and played for annually and afterwards a strawberry/scone cream tea is to be enjoyed by everyone.

The winner today with a brilliant score of 39pts is Jane Millership👏 👏, seen in the photograph being presented with the trophy by Joan Buckerfield.

The Presidents Cup 2026
The cup was first presented in 1908 by the then President, Lord Braybrooke. The inaugural event was played in 1908.
Since 1911 there has been a qualifying round followed by the final round played by the best 6 players/ scores with the best scores.
The cup was to be played for over 2 rounds medal play.
This years winner with 2 rounds of nett 74 and 62 playing off a 9 handicap was Jeff Hunt. Jeff had 10 pars and 4 birdies….Great golf Jeff.
Runner up on countback from Andy Axford was Matt Gray with a 142.Alan Greenbank, President of our club presented the cup after the competition today.

Club Day at Felixstowe Ferry

First club away day was at Felixstowe where if and I do say if, you hit a straight ball it went on forever!! Problem for some,,,, they couldn’t hit it straight.
A great course to play, extremely dry (and clubhouse being rebuilt) but a fun day was had by all.
Our thanks to Keith Taylor for all the hard work in arranging the day..
It was a good and interesting course to play and the day started with a bacon roll!!Spectacular views from the course. A great day out.

Congratulations to Tracey Parsons

Many congratulations to Tracey Parsons taking first place in Division 2 of the England Captains East of England Challenge at Royal Norwich Golf Club this month, beating 62 men and women from across the Region.

The winner from each of Division 1 and 2 automatically goes through to the Grand Final, while those taking places 2-6 in each division play in North and South Regional Finals for a place in the Final.

Therefore Tracey will now go forward to the National Grand Final at Woodhall Spa in October. We all wish her the best of luck! 👏 👏

The Grace Norman is a County Competition

Foursomes knockout played over 18 holes.

A team will consist of three pairs (not necessarily the same players for each round).

Played yesterday 27th July at Ely Golf Club in the semi finals.

Cambridge Meridian beat Saffron Walden & Royston beat St Neots. Royston played Cambridge Meridian in the final and were victorious for the second year running, retaining the trophy. 👏 👏 🏆
