What are the staff doing well to help thier children to progress?
Natalie (pictured below) is always in the water supporting and encouraging the children. Her enthusiasm has helped many of the children who were in armbands to be able to swim without them, with some of them even managing to swim 25 metres! 😊

What are the staff at Monteney Primary School doing right to help with pupil progression:
- Mr Fisher (pictured below) gets in the water every week to support the pupils, and he is always so energetic and enthusiastic!
- The school and swim staff have a great working relationship which has helped to create a positive environment for the children to learn to swim

For the latter part of Drowning Prevention Week, we're focussing in on our aim to ensure everyone knows how to be enjoy being in, on and around water safely 🛟

The most important part of our School Swimming programme is water safety. RLSS are campaigning for the government to include drowning prevention as part of in classroom learning. Their report shows a 45% increase in child drowning, that is a frightening statistic. It's so important that we teach our children the dangers around water.

Did you know:
💦 47% of accidental drownings occur between May and August.
💦 An average of 312 UK & Irish citizens lose their life to drownings each year.
💦 Around two thirds of UK adults have never had any formal training or education in Water Safety.
Drowning Prevention Week 2023 is running from Saturday 17th June - Friday 23rd June.

Drowining Prevention week starts on 17th June. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing information to help keep yourselves safe and to share with young people. Unfortunately there have been a lot of incidents in water recently which could have been preventable.
Our Campaign Drowning Prevention Week's mission is to help everybody across the UK and Ireland enjoy water safely.
