DC Cycles is a Southampton based company offering an extensive range of cycle related services to the hampshire area and further afield. We pride ourselves in having a professional but very friendly service, where customers can come to our store, relax on the sofas, talk bikes, have a coffee and generally get a good vibe from the place, making us very approachable, something we believe is not offered from enough companies or has been lost over time. We cater for all aspects and disciplines from Road to MTB, Cyclocross to BMX Racing and currently have 7 bmx team riders invited to represent GB in the world championships in Holland this year.

Race BMX wheelset build: Halo T2 rims on ICE Hacker X rear + ICE Tank 20mm front 🏁

This is what a proper race wheel spec looks like — built by hand, not just bolted together.

Rear — ICE Hacker X disc hub:
This hub is built to run both 15mm and 10mm axles on the same hub, with a tool-free swap between the two via the included adapter — so it fits pretty much any BMX race frame on the market. 6061-T6 aluminium hub body, 6-pawl freehub for 180 points of engagement (meaning drive kicks in almost instantly — no dead spot off the gate), and 4 sealed bearings for a hub that stays smooth under load.

Front — ICE Tank 20mm hub:
Lightweight alloy shell and axle, 20mm x 114mm thru-axle with three spacers so it'll fit carbon or Cr-Mo forks without messing about. Enduro sealed bearings keep it spinning smooth, and at this weight it's built to get you to the first turn without dragging.

Laced to Halo T2 rims — strong enough to take gate drops and rhythm sections all season without going out of true.
Why hand-built actually matters (not just a selling line):

A machine-built wheel is tensioned to a target number and shipped. That's it. A hand-built wheel goes through a process a machine skips entirely:

Even tension across every spoke — checked by feel and by tension meter, not just torqued to a spec sheet. Uneven tension is the #1 cause of a wheel going out of true early, because the loosest spoke is always the first to work loose further.

Stress-relieving — every spoke is flexed and seated into the hub fl**ge and ni**le before the wheel ever gets ridden. Skip this step and the wheel does its "bedding in" on the track instead of on the stand — which is why some wheels go soft in the first few rides.

Dish and roundness checked together, not separately — on a race wheel especially, a rim that's dead true but off-centre on the hub still throws the bike off-line. Hand building lets you true, dish and round the wheel as one process, correcting all three at once rather than chasing one and throwing off another.

Mekk Primo — straight in for a full 40 point check, service and report. (With full paperwork and PDF of worked carried out and all comments and recommendations and details of worked carried out)

Why use them?

The FR 541 is designed around the use of ni**le washers. They sit between the ni**le and the rim, helping spread the load over a larger area and allowing the ni**le to seat correctly against the rim.

We won't be at the Hayes BMX event this weekend 😔

This one's a tough post to write.

We pride ourselves on being there for every round of the series.

Missing an event just isn't something we do lightly — reliability is something we've always tried to build our name on.

This week just beat us.

We've spent it trying every angle to get a mechanic or team member sorted, and staffing just hasn't come together in time.

It's not through lack of trying, and it's genuinely not like us.

We know it's properly last-minute, and we're sorry to anyone who was planning to see us there.

This is a one-off for this round — we'll be back on track soon.
