🚲 WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHECKED YOUR BRAKE PADS?
It’s one of those little jobs that’s easy to overlook… until your brakes suddenly don’t feel quite right.
Take a look at the two pads in the picture 👀
The top pad is dirty and contaminated with a build-up of grime and braking debris.
The lower pad has been cleaned up, bringing the braking surface back to a much better condition.
A quick inspection and clean can make a noticeable difference to brake feel, braking performance and consistency — and regular maintenance can help you get more life out of your pads too.
⚠️ But cleaning isn't always the answer.
If your pads are worn, contaminated with oil, damaged or simply past their useful life, they should be replaced.
🔧 OUR QUICK BRAKE CHECK
✅ Check pad thickness
✅ Look for contamination or excessive dirt
✅ Check the pad surface for glazing or damage
✅ Check the rotor/disc condition
✅ Make sure the brakes feel strong and consistent
✅ Replace pads when they are worn or contaminated
And if you're not sure what you're looking at…
📩 SEND US A PHOTO ON MESSENGER.
At DC Cycles Southampton, we’re always happy to have a look and point you in the right direction — whether you need advice, replacement BMX brake pads, brake maintenance or a proper check over.

Looking forward to this weekend race at Bournemouth.
Rumours are that JT is putting on a wild party lap shirt and Whittaker is riding in some budgie snuggles.
You know what to do if you need anything specific taken to the race and we see you next to the beach ⛱️⛱️

When you got the best tech on site, who you going too! Mr DC of course 🔥🤘
When a rider want to switch it up after spending years on his current brand he decides he wants to give the Meybo hype a try. So choosing to give this HSX alloy a try.
Needing a new 15mm rear hub to suit the back end and a wheel build later and some other little bits and she ready to roll after being built trackside today!! 🔧🔧
He was amazed that we built a custom XT rear brake for him as well as getting the bike built track side today.
Looking to switch it up next year and wanting an honest conversation from the people doing for the sport, you know who to call first 🥇

🌍 WORLD NUMBER 8! 🇦🇺🚲
A massive congratulations to Anita Wong from Hayes Hawks BMX Club on an incredible performance at the UCI BMX World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, where she finished 8th in the world in the Women's 35+ 20" Cruiser class.
That result alone is something to be immensely proud of, but what makes Anita's achievement even more impressive is the level of competition she faced. Racing in the 35+ category meant lining up against women who were up to 20 years younger than her.
From a sports science perspective, that's no small challenge.
As we age, the body naturally begins to lose muscle mass and strength (a process known as sarcopenia), while explosive power, reaction time, recovery speed and maximum aerobic capacity all gradually decline. For women, hormonal changes over time can also make maintaining muscle, bone density and recovery even more demanding.
In a sport like BMX racing—where races are won by explosive starts, rapid acceleration, split-second reactions and the ability to produce huge amounts of power in just a few seconds—those physiological changes can make competing against significantly younger athletes incredibly difficult.
Yet Anita proved that determination, dedication, years of experience and relentless hard work can bridge that gap.
To stand on the gate at a World Championship, race against some of the best riders on the planet, and come away as World Number 8 is an outstanding achievement and one that everyone at Hayes Hawks BMX Club should be incredibly proud of.
Congratulations, Anita! You've shown that passion, perseverance and commitment can take you to the very top of world BMX. 🌍💪🚴♀️
