After Saturday’s thrilling 3-2 win, the Reds have their first midweek clash of the NWCFL season on the horizon as they welcome Garstang to Gamble Road.

The Reds go into Wednesday evening’s fixture against their local opponents on the back of a comeback win against Cammell Laird 1907. Despite falling two goals behind just before the half hour mark, through an Adam Smith brace, Jackson Bateman and Dan Stoney scored to take a 2-2 draw into half-time, whilst Laird went in down to 10 men. On 86 minutes, Kyle Higham (pictured) was on hand to grab the winner after meeting the returning Joe Robinson’s cross.

Following pre-season, Paul Gregory handed out debuts to midfield duo Joe Robinson and Kieran Shaw, and attacker Josh Winder, against the former First Division South side, whilst Adam Sumner took the armband and received the Fylde Coast Joinery Man of the Match award.

As for the visitors, they were defeated on the opening day by Halewood Apollo. Garstang started brightly and led after three minutes via Stephen Mercer, but the Merseyside-based side hit back with three goals without reply, including two in the final 15 minutes, to record their first win in the NWCFL.

The sides have met previously on five occasions in the last two seasons. The Reds have come out on top in four games, which included all three games in the 2025/26 campaign, whilst Garstang have won once.

In October 2025, Jackson Bateman’s late winner in the second round of the Macron Cup helped TC advance after Samuel Lopes Viegas and Archie Lang had scored earlier. A week later, the Reds returned to league action and the Riverside once again, but, this time, they comfortably got the job done. Bateman, Dan Stoney, Dom Ritchie, Jordan Moran and Jordan Beavers scored whilst Luke Harris came off the bench to record a brace and a 7-1 win.

Harris was at the double against Garstang on the final day of last season too. On the day, the forward’s first-half brace gave the Reds an early lead, before substitutes Jordan Beavers and Jacob Aspinall ended the campaign in style with a goal apiece, securing a 4-0 win.

In the 2024/25 campaign, 10-men Garstang beat Thornton Cleveleys 2-1 at Gamble Road, with Oliver Wilkinson on the scoresheet in the October tie. Five months later, the Reds struck back in the reverse tie away from home and won 2-0, thanks to Wilkinson and Luke Noble.

Manager Paul Gregory said he is ready to utilise squad depth and make changes to his starting line-up ahead of Garstang’s visit.

“It is always nice to be at home, and this will be our first game under the lights which will be good. Again, we pretty much have a full squad, only Ben [Reader] and Jacob [Gregory] are still away on holiday. There will be changes made which is good for us because we have got that squad depth and we can see what is going to work for us as we did against Cammell Laird.

“We know what needs to be done. We have got to be better in certain areas, and we have got to keep raising the standard. We are not disillusioned, Garstang are not going to come here just for a 30-minute trip down the road, they are going to come here and try and take the three points.

“The lads are fine. They are going feel a bit stiff, but they have a couple days of recovery. We will probably get them in on Tuesday night anyway for a light session. Nothing hard and fast, but just to go through certain things in the game, mindsets, how we expect them to be, standards, and as I say, application.”

A dominant performance from TCFC Ladies, who started on the front foot and controlled the game from start to finish. The team showed great composure in possession, with excellent passing and link-up play throughout.

Liv Richmond opened the scoring inside the first five minutes and continued to threaten all game. She also had two goals ruled out for offside before adding two more to complete a superb hat-trick before half-time. Abbie provided the assist for one of Liv’s goals with a well-worked pass.

Liv Provan then produced a moment of quality, curling a free-kick into the top corner, as TCFC went into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.

TCFC remained in control after the break, continuing to create chances and dominate possession. Chloe added two second-half goals, with Charley providing the assist for the second, to round off an excellent team performance.

A special mention goes to Kayleigh Eccleston, whose composure and solid defending at the back helped keep the team in control throughout the match. A well-deserved Player of the Match performance.

A fantastic all-round display from TCFC Ladies, with quality across the pitch and plenty of positives to build on going into the next fixture.
