Reiki is the Japanese word for ‘Universal Life Energy’, which is channelled by the practitioner to create a deep state of peace and relaxation that stimulates our own natural healing mechanisms. Reiki has been found to reduce stress, pain, depression, and anxiety, as well as improve clarity of mind, sleep, and general wellbeing.

Meet Lucy in our reception area, where she’ll warmly welcome you before guiding you up to the studio. There, you’ll be invited to settle comfortably on her massage table and begin your session in a calm, nurturing space.

A student recently told me that their favourite thing about their yoga practice is that, for one hour, there is nothing to achieve.

It got me thinking about how rare that can be.

So much of our lives are spent working towards something - getting somewhere, doing something, being productive, meeting expectations.

And then we step onto our mat.

For that hour, there is nowhere else to be.

No outcome you have to reach.
No version of yourself you need to be.

You can simply breathe, move, pause and notice.

In yoga philosophy, aparigraha is often translated as non-grasping - letting go of our attachment to what we think we need to have, achieve or hold onto.

It’s not always easy in practice!

But maybe sometimes the most valuable thing we can practice is not achieving more, but experiencing what it feels like to not need to achieve anything at all.

Just being here. Just being present.

And perhaps, when we leave our mat, we can take a little of that with us - a reminder that we don’t always have to be striving towards the next thing. Sometimes learning to be fully present with what is already here is the best thing we can do. 🤍

Rocket Yoga: Play, Flow, Fly
Saturday 7th November
10:30am - 12:30pm
Liz Brinkmann

Rocket Yoga, also known as “The Rocket,” is a dynamic and invigorating style of yoga that combines traditional Ashtanga yoga with elements of creative vinyasa flow.

We’ll begin the workshop by learning a little more about Rocket Yoga — its origins, philosophy and what makes it unique — before moving into the practice itself. Rocket Yoga is divided into three different sequences, based on the series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This unique power yoga style was created by Larry Schultz, a student of Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga.

Rocket is designed to build flexibility, strength and balance in the body, while promoting a sense of calm and focus in the mind. It’s an invigorating practice that can be adapted to suit both beginners and experienced practitioners. The sequences encourage a fun, playful and challenging approach to yoga, while exploring the art of modification and learning how to link breath, bandhas and movement to create flight.

In this workshop, we’ll explore Rocket 1 together, working through strength and flexibility drills, breaking down tricky transitions, and exploring and challenging ourselves with arm balances and forearm stands.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners, with modifications offered throughout to suit different levels and abilities.
