Zanshin-Kai Aikido

There are times in an instructors “teaching life” when his students may have doubts of their abilities, this is when the instructor has to reassure the student that they are ready and help put the students mind at ease. But as we know….when it comes to gradings a student is only as good as how they perform on the day and (if anyone is like me) we hope that it goes well for them on the day.

I say this because in my time teaching, I have had one student who was going for 1st Kyu, but ended up going it 5 times! Not that this person wasn’t ready….not that this person did something wrong but because for some reason it wasn’t their time. Eventually that person passed and went on to become my first Dan grade student..to which I am very proud of.

Today I had two students who were grading for 1st Kyu. Although I had faith, you can never know how things turn out on the day and I was hoping that the outcome would be a positive one.

We had so many emotions going… nervousness, tears, self doubt…the lot, but in the end….they put all these thoughts behind them and got on with the job. I am so proud of my students, the way they conducted themselves…the way they dealt with their fears and doubts.

Today was a really great day, one that will be remembered for the laughs…the good food and more importantly the great company in the students of Zanshin-Kai.

Many thanks to Paul Martens for hosting our first club BBQ, Mr, Mrs and Miss Perry for the lift to Paul’s 👍🏾👍🏾….and to everyone who came and brought food and made it such a special day.

May I say thank you to all who turned up today in Worcester to help make our day such a success. We have a great time…fun…jokes but also some of us managed to learn something or break our “duck”..(well done Emma😉)

We didn’t hand out many leaflets…we were too busy training or trying to keep hydrated 😆😆😆but it was a good day which we should get one or two enquiries/members.

We have our annual event coming up in Worcester this August. The Worcester Show is a community event for the whole of Worcestershire and attracts over 10,000 visitors on the day. We are delighted to have been invited back for the third time to demonstrate aikido to the community. If you have some spare time on Sunday 10th August we’d love to see you there.

We had a great day today at St Peter’s festival. Lots of ukemi…lots of weapons work….and lots of fun along the way.

Well we had a great day today down in London with our UCL brothers and sisters.

It was good to see fellow aikidoka Woking on jo work, followed by tanto dori and a successful 1st Kyu grading…..all this and a nice cool down at the park with friends and cake.

Well done everyone for making the day an enjoyable one.
