My focus is to get your body moving, working and feeling better. Rejecting the traditional approach of addressing areas of concern in isolation, my programmes recognise that the body is made up of a complex set of sub-systems which are key to recovery and performance. This corrective care enables the restoration of freedom through mind, breath and movement so you can perform at your best. A Robert Scott Fitness training program is completely unique to you. Using a range of assessments programmes are custom built to move your body towards peak performance. Key focus areas that we'll explore together include mobility, breath, habits, stress management, sustenance and athleticism. All programmes include regular adjustments, one-on-one calls or sessions and progressions throughout. Whether your goal is sports related, self-esteem driven, or you just want to strengthen weak areas, address pain or better perform in everyday tasks, I can design a program specifically to meet your needs and goals, improving performance while preventing injury.

Adding weight doesn’t always need to mean adding another 5–10kg.

Especially once you’re working around that 8–9/10 intensity, sometimes the best increase is literally 1.25kg each side.

It doesn’t sound like much, but if you can add 2.5kg every couple of weeks, fast forward six months and that’s a pretty decent increase.

Where people can run into trouble is just randomly deciding they can do more and making a massive jump in load.

Then when the knees start getting sore, the first thought is often that something is tight, something isn’t moving properly, or they need some sort of rehab drill.

When sometimes, the answer is much simpler.

You’ve just asked your body to handle more load than it was ready for.

All movement links back to how well we can expand and compress with air 🫁.

Without reciprocal expansion and compression, we lose alternation/rotation and end up moving/walking like a big ol block of cheese.

If you want to improve the way you move, create space for your joints, and allow your muscles to respond accordingly. Work on your breathing cadence, and work on your breathing mechanics.

Once you learn how to manage your center of mass reasonably well and get your foot moving, ankle mobility improves, and the calves tend to relax.⠀

Using something like a wedge or a folded towel under your heel can help you reference and maintain some pressure throughout the back of your foot without completely losing that pressure while you move through an exercise.⠀

Once you've got a good understanding of what that feels like, you can always start to remove those references and not rely on them so often.⠀

Probably not the most exciting answer, but it’s the one I keep coming back to.

A bit of structure makes it much easier to know what you’re actually meant to be doing, and consistency gives it enough time to actually work.

You can always make things more complicated later.

Just sitting here thinking how my pec feels a little uncomfortable before heading into the gym, and how years ago that would mean 15-20 minutes of a lacrosse ball shoved into my pec and stretching at all different angles. But nowadays, it means I'm going to create some space first and then pump some arms so that by the end of it, my pec will feel like a million bucks ☕️.
