What does your weight actually tell you?
BMI is quick and free, but it has one major limitation:
It can't tell the difference between muscle and body fat.
A recent study *following more than 4,200 adults for around 15 years found that higher body fat percentage was significantly associated with both all-cause and heart-disease mortality.
Interestingly, BMI and body-fat percentage agreed on whether people fell into the study's healthy/unhealthy categories only about 60% of the time.
That's why body composition matters.
Two people can weigh exactly the same but have very different amounts of muscle, body fat and visceral fat. And if you're training, you can lose fat and gain muscle without seeing much change on the scales.
I've delivered over 40,000 body composition scans across the North Island over the past 13 years, and I see this all the time.
The maths is simple: gain 1kg of muscle and lose 1kg of fat, and the scales haven't moved at all. Yet your body composition has changed significantly.
An InBody 570 scan looks beyond your weight, measuring things like:
Skeletal Muscle Mass
Body Fat Percentage
Visceral Fat Level
Lean Mass vs Fat Mass
Segmental Muscle and Fat Distribution - see in black and white exactly where you're gaining or losing!
And importantly, we can track those changes over time, which keeps you on track and accountable.
Stop obsessing over the bathroom scales. Your weight is just a number; what that weight is made of is far more useful.
An InBody 570 Body Composition Scan using Hawke's Bay's only medical-grade BIA analyser: is just $30.
