Heading up into Te Urewera with the cuzies to hunt down a trophy stag, but rule number one never changes: feed the crew first. Nothing beats a hot meal, a steaming cup of coffee, and a good laugh at the hut before we gear up, hit the bush, and make sure everyone comes home safe.

I have been out at the smoker working my magic with that good ol' Mānuka wood, turning out some absolute golden perfection. The flesh is white, buttery, and honestly tastes just like chicken—if chicken was fancy, swam in fresh water, and tasted a hundred times better! We’re sending a batch over to cuzzy Pita Shillingford for the ultimate taste test, and he’s already calling it pure gold, hit me with the truth: are you Team Smoked Eel, or are you still missing out on the best delicacy in NZ? When the girlfriend asks for salt for her pasta, you don't grab a shaker—you dive into the ocean for fresh Kuku mussels! We’ve already got Kina, Paua, and Crayfish on tonight's camping menu, but she needed that extra seafood flavor, so I harvested these legendary little rock mussels to save the day (and the dinner).

Looking for the ultimate secret whitebaiting spot?🤔
Keep it to yourself, because the moment money enters the picture, the whole country will show up to claim it! It’s crazy how whitebaiting brings out real greed—people you’ve never seen all year while fishing will suddenly get arrogant, aggressive, and challenge you on a riverbank you’ve fished for decades. Some of us have fished all year round (Surfcasting) and all of sudden we get whitebait power tripers approaching me and challenging my spot that I have managed all year round not just a few weeks a year!

Know who the local "locals" are before you challenge them! Your not local if you show up once a year for a few weeks in a hole year lol

Im going of our Kiwi "LORE", respect for eachother, Take only enough to feed Your family LARGE or SMALL family, clean up after you leave, respect the elders and make sure everyone gets a kai.
This "LAW" stuff is what makes us act like Americans! I guess there is "money" involved!

Money doesn't make the world go around; it just drives people wild. For us, whitebaiting isn't about making a quick buck—it’s about feeding our elders, sharing with whānau, and supporting those grieving at a Tangihanga. Keep the tradition about caring for your community, not commercial greed! 🐟🌾✨

Check out this epic haul from today's dive out at Waimarama with Peping—loaded up with heaps of fresh Kina, a few solid Paua, and a couple of Crayfish for the whānau! I just returned from a Hawke’s Bay dive loaded with absolute yellow gold, bringing enough Kina to feed the whole whānau, Ngāti Kahungunu, and the entire neighborhood of kaumātua "old people"

Fresh seafood is my therapy, my way of showing love to my kids, and the ultimate way to look after our people in Kahungunu.

Got my gears ready, just finished the dive. Was a solo dive out in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, and I came back with the goods—some pure yellow gold, kina style! Ready to crack open this batch and feed the elders of Ngāti Hori, Hastings, before I end up eating the entire haul myself.

We just pulled some incredible fresh trout out of the river, and now it's time to get that fire going and feed the whānau. What an absolute buzz—Tūhoe nui tonu! 🎣🔥🌿
