Coaching can only work when people feel safe to be honest.
Think about your team for a moment.
Do your team members feel comfortable raising concerns early, before problems escalate? Or do they tend to present everything as fine until it isn't?
If it's the latter, that's worth paying attention to, not as a critique, but as useful information. Psychological safety doesn't happen by accident. It requires intentional effort.
In my latest article, I write about the conditions leaders need to create before a coaching approach can take root, including this one.

"I felt so tired. Most of my days are just never-ending tasks."
That's what Dan told me. He said he didn't even know if some of those tasks were necessary, or if they made any difference.
Here's the surprising part: Dan's organisation had a compelling mission. His team had a clear purpose.
Yet he couldn't explain how his work contributed to it.
Sound familiar?
This is what I call the engagement gap, and it costs teams more than most leaders realise.
I've written about a coaching framework that helps bridge this gap. Not by telling people why their work matters, but by helping them discover it for themselves.
Because that's where genuine ownership comes from.

Can your team explain what your mission actually means? 🤔
A team I worked with can recite their mission statement perfectly. However, when I asked what it meant, I received five different answers.
Research shows 93% of workers say a lack of clarity on company goals prevents them from doing their best work.
I've put together a practical framework to help leaders build this clarity, especially when working with diverse, multicultural teams.

Here's an uncomfortable truth:
Your team might know what they do, but do they know why it matters?
Studies show that 70% of workers say a lack of clarity puts their company's goals at risk.
Mission clarity isn't just about having a statement on the wall. It's about every team member understanding:
● Why your team exists
● Who you serve
● What value you create
● What impact you make
I've shared a simple framework with four key questions to help teams gain this clarity.
