Nathan Martinez is our latest and greatest graduate‼️‼️
Nate is graduating with a degree in Bio molecular Science. He will be taking a gap year to apply to medical school!!🥼🩺

It seems like he’s been on the team for years, but Nate just joined this year to get more exercise and some new people at umich! Since then he has enjoyed yapping with the team in the hot tub after swim practices and getting Hopcat🙀 with Blake and Joe before GVSU indoor triathlon.

As a new Michigan alum, Nate would like to share some wisdom with the team: college goes by pretty fast, so make sure to take it all in!

Congratulations Nate, We are so excited to see what your future holds!

Cooper Jackson is our next senior!! This Biology major will be putting in his Dental School applications🦷🪥 and working for UM-ITS next.

Cooper joined the team this year because he wanted to improve his cycling skills🚴‍♂️to keep up with his dad. The other two disciplines were completely new!!🏊‍♂️🏃‍♂️ He says practices were a huge highlight where he got to meet new people and make great friends. And HRD to Chelsea will forever live in his heart as an amazing bike route.

He also made some amazing race memories at Boilerman and nationals! He got a little bored on the bike and decided to sing “I want it that way”, and had a few others join in. And got his favorite post-race snack: Chocolate milkshake and french fries!🍟

For his advice, Cooper says don’t do things halfway, commit to that dive turned belly flop, bike so hard your chain snaps, run so fast you’re in 4 weeks of hip rehab...or don’t, but full send the socials for sure.

A huge thank you for being a part of this team and go blue!!

Hannah DiGiovanni walked across the stage to get her degree yesterday in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB)🤩 Big things happening the summer!! Hannah is Racing Ohio 70.3 in July and then starting medical school at Oakland University in August🐻

We are so thankful that Hannah decided to join the team 4 years ago(wow time really flies). Coming into college, she already knew wanted to join MTri to help me become a better triathlete and find community in this sport. She came to the first run practice at Ferry Field her freshman year, loved it, and decided to stuck around ever since!

Hannah has good memories of racing at 2025 nationals in Miami where she got to race on a nascar race track, and 2026 nationals in Gulfport, hearing everyone cheer her on so loudly during the draft legal and MTR! Also our back to back women’s team first place wins at Boilerman in 2023 and 2024!
And every good race for her starts with a good team pre-race dinner at Olive Garden🍝 and Culver’s🍟 post-race meal.

Her very sound advice to new triathletes: You don’t need a bunch of fancy stuff to be successful in triathlons! Consistency and discipline are way more important than an expensive bike or carbon-plated shoes. So don’t be intimidated by everyone else’s gear and just stick to your training, knowing that all your hard work will be what will lead you to the finish line.

We will be cheering you on always!! 💙💛

Let’s go Alex Mantel👏👏 Alex is graduating with a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering (ChemE triathletes>>) Next stop, Indian to work for Eli Lilly‼️

Alex had been on the team for 2 years. She began racing triathlons and wanted the opportunity to train and compete with other Michigan students! 🥳💙

She has lots of favorite race memories, but a few are:
I loved time with the team at the Quality Inn during Miami nationals in spring 2025!! Missing the pool, great Cuban food, and Meghan Murray’s poems!
I also am super grateful for my experience in Marbella with the team, having a community while racing far away from home was very uplifting (shoutout Joey c, Annie, Patrick, Owen, Mariam, Aidan, and Anna)!!
I loved getting to host a bike practice with Kalie to our specially curated twenty one pilots soundtrack. If I become a soul cycle instructor you’ll know why
Finally, I loved any indoor run practice I attended, that was definitely my favorite mtri weekly practice.

Her advice is to enjoy the process and have fun with it!!! Racing and training with friends is such a gift. Also never skip your pre and post workout stretches:)

Thank you for being an amazing teammate Alex🫶

Celebrating our beloved past president, Kalie Gamboa! She was a sociology & Spanish double major who’s off to work in Chicago🌆.

Kalie joined MTRI in her sophomore year, became president the next semester🙌. She joined as a baby triathlete and wanted to see if she enjoyed it enough to keep with it. We are so glad she did, and ended up finding all of her best friends👯‍♀️

Best MTri memory has got to be first nationals meeting everyone and getting to know them in the pool. Besides that, obviously wednesday night karaoke and trivia bar crawls will forever be her greatest college memories💓💓 The 20 hour drive from michigan to miami in a school van will also always be a fond memory believe it or not.

Advice for future MTRI members: go to practice to get better, go to socials to find friends for life

With hearts so full, we say goodbye to K Money!!🤑🫰

Claire Eberle is our next graduate!! She is a former Philosophy major, planning to attend law school. But first she’ll be spending a gap year working at the investigations unit at the district attorney’s office back home in NV!!

Claire joined MTRI in Fall 2025, inspired by the first sprint triathlon. She decided she wanted to pursue longer races, and had an Ironman-connoisseur uncle who encouraged her to join a team and immerse herself in the sport and its community. It was great advice!

Claire has advice of her own she would like to share with you: Train with people who are faster than you!🏃‍♀️💨

Claire couldn’t pick just one favorite MTRI memory, but she does have a favorite race snack, which is sour Scandinavian swimmers from Trader Joe’s!🐬🦀🐠 She’s really going to miss all of the practices and being surrounded by such a fun team. And we will miss her too!!🥺💙
