Happy Lifeguard Appreciation Day! π
July 31 is International Lifeguard Appreciation Day. The Ann Arbor YMCA would like to thank all of our amazing lifeguards that keep our pools and camp waterfronts safe! Their training, dedication, and watchful eyes make it possible for our community to enjoy the water worry-free.
If you visit our downtown facility today, stop by the Welcome Center and write a thank-you note for our lifeguards! We'll be displaying your messages on the lobby windows to show our appreciation for all they do.

The Ann Arbor YMCA is closed today in observance of Juneteenth.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863, it took two and a half years for enslaved individuals in the state of Texas to be told of their freedom.
Juneteenth is the celebration of the day in the United States when all enslaved individuals became aware of their freedom.
