Announcing the 2026 season captains:
Gnarlee Quinn and Pipsqueak

Gnarlee is a ray of sunshine. She pushes her teammates to be the best they can be, raising them up and supporting them. She leads our off-skates workouts, stretching, and practices, and creates workout regimens for our skaters to follow at home. Gnarlee has been with us since the beginning and will be aging out this year.

Pip is a constant positive person on our team. You can always depend on her to have a smile on her face and support her teammates. She helps lead practices, bringing new drills and teaching them to the team. She also helps manage our social media. She has been a leader for this team for the four seasons she's been with us and will be aging out this year.

We are excited to see these two in action this season

We are saddened by the loss of our friend and skating official, Brian Sides, know to us as Jekyll & Sides.

We are overwhelmed by the love shown throughout the region and country. He truly was one of the best, most knowledgeable, respected and loved referees. Jekyll was always there to help leagues from all over, adult and junior. He was patient, a mentor, and always laughing and smiling. He left such an impact on the sport of roller derby and all involved. Our condolences are with his family, friends, and the derby community.

We will miss that zebra calling out our penalties. 🦓🛼💚

Ruby Red Slapper #34 is a founding member of Slayers from 2018. She also played in the World Cup championship game for Team USA in Australia in July, bringing home gold. She’s the first Alabama skater to make the US team(for juniors or adults). She’s loved her 8 years with Slayers and 2 as captain. She was also a Rome Allstar member for three years and captain for one. She really took on the role of leader, encouraging and teaching teammates how to communicate with each other on and off the track. She wants the best out of everything she does…. derby, school, as well as wants the best out of her teammates and friends. With her drive and determination, we know this will carry on after jr derby. She has goals of being an attorney, professional wrestler, and play adult derby when she’s ready. Ruby is so proud of her teammates and the program. Come check us out this Sunday Skates 280!

Bouts this Sunday! We will sadly say goodbye to and celebrate our two seniors. 💚🖤Speedlejuice #777 joined in 2020 and has been playing with her whole heart since. She is one of our captains. She’s always been a leader on and off the track. Speedy is a true triple threat athlete, going in as jammer, blocker, and pivot. Always ready to play however she’s needed. She was also a member of Rome Allstars. Speedy will attend cosmetology school at Wallace State. We can’t wait to see what all she accomplishes! There’s no doubt it will be a lot because of all she did for Slayers.

Yesterday the Slayers had their first scrimmage back from break!! We're so proud of how everyone did and can't wait for our games coming up! 💙💜
