Congratulations to Andrew Vukovich on being promoted to Nidan - 2nd Degree Black Belt. Andrew was one of our first original students to become a Black Belt here at the Chesterfield location. The amount of time and dedication to his martial arts career has been impressive. Along with his own training he has helped greatly with others, earning him the instructor’s pledge/certificate. His time here has been greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Maddie O’Grady on her promotion to Nidan - Second Degree Black Belt. Maddie started her training many years ago at roughly 6 years of age. She started lessons at the Kirkwood, Tracy’s with Karen Luesse and later Joe Talbot as her instructors. As years went by she transferred to the Maryland Heights Tracy’s Karate with Bill Boyd as her instructor. As luck would have it she has moved out here to the Chesterfield location; after another few years of training, she has earned the rank of Nidan. It is amazing what hard work and perseverance can accomplish.

Jim Viviano was promoted to Nidan - 2nd Degree Black Belt on August 26th. Having been an instructor at the Tracy’s School in Kirkwood he was presented with an Instructor’s certificate. Jim taught for many years along with being a successful tournament fighter earlier in his martial arts career. School, family and work created a pause in his training that he has recently turned off. We are thrilled to have Jim back with the Tracy’s family.

I am very proud to make an official announcement that David Goss, who was promoted to Yodan 4th Degree Black Belt, has been added to the instructor staff here at Tracy’s Karate in Chesterfield, MO. David began training in martial arts in 2004 in tandem with boxing. After trying multiple styles of martial arts he found Tracy's karate. Tracy's quickly became home away from home. Learning to defend himself while becoming confident and focused was what kept him interested. It did not take long for Tracy's karate style (Kenpo) to become a passion. During David's time as a teenager he realized that point fighting (the sport of karate) was something he loved and would grow to be champion at. Some accomplishments include:

-Taking 2nd place overall in the intermediate division for his age (13). 1st and 3rd were also Tracy's fighters
-Taking first place overall in the intermediate division at 15
-Taking first place overall for advanced fighting (brown belt) two years in a row
- Holding the middle weight tite for the Midwest in men's black belt fighting for consecutive years.

Rewinding to his high school years, David attributes martial arts and Tracy's karate to his success and focus in the books and on the playing field. David competed in track field where he was a state championship competitor during his junior and senior years in long jump, high jump, and the 100 meter dash.

In 2012 David was promoted to the rank of Shodan (first degree black belt). He was hired by Ben Pratt as a primary full time instructor. Since then David has kept martial arts in his life to help better himself and others around him.

Very proud to announce the promotion of several of our Black Belts…the newly promoted are in the front row. Starting from the left is Ari Duel promoted to Nidan-2nd Degree, Andrew Vukovich promoted to Nidan-2nd Degree, Maddie O’Grady promoted to Nidan-2nd Degree, David Goss promoted to Yodan-4th Degree, and Jim Viviano promoted to Nidan-2nd Degree. The number of hours of training these individuals have put in is staggering. In the back row are the higher level Black Belts who have approved of these promotions. Consisting of two 9th Degrees, Dave Hofer and Joe Talbot, one 7th Degree, Ben Pratt, two 6th Degrees, Mary Duncan and David Mesker, and two 5th Degrees, Dana Stephens and DJ Hofer.

Congratulations to Evie on doing a great job on her Blue Belt Test tonight…next step is Green Belt.

Congratulations to Travis on doing a spectacular job on his third-degree Brown Belt Test. He did an awesome job especially considering that he had nine people from his family watching him.

Reports like this always come with mixed emotions… But very proud of one of our women students who successfully defended herself last week in the parking lot of west county mall. I don’t have all the details yet, but I do know the assailant was incapacitated long enough to reach safety and call the appropriate authorities.
